Problem here is that you dont have the ability to calibrate the RTD's offsets. I've had to do 4 degree F swings when setting up new probes before. Cheap PIDs are about the same price as those displays.

I know Ive seen someone do that on here. Glycol wont eat through your chest freezer if that's what you are worried about. Look up pricing of glycol before you decide to go that route however. You really dont need such a large reservoir.

4500 would probably work. I just did a 10gal batch in my 15gal pot using a 5500w element and I had to turn it down to about 75%.

I looked into it for one of my builds and basically there wasnt a better/cheaper way than just getting extra PID(s).

I use very cheap submersible pond pumps in a propylene glycol/water solution and they are working fine. Normally I stay more 40-50 range but will go down to 20F no issues. Colder temp really isn't an issue as long as you aren't icing up.
