    Yeast starter flask/stopper question

I'm looking to up my game by making yeast starters. I know there are simpler methods but I like gadgets so I'm leaning towards a stir starter contraption like http://www.stirstarters.com/. It seems logical that you'd need an Erlenmeyer Flask (or as I call it a science jar) because of its...

    Home Brewer TV #27

Really love your show man. It has re-sparked my passion for brewing. When I see the joy with which you sample the homebrews it always makes me thirsty. Unfortunatly I'm in south east asia at the moment with very little bandwidth but I'm looking forward to catching up on my missed episodes...

    Bottling from a Conical

I recently acquired a Blichmann stainless steel conical fermenter and my first batch with it is almost finished with secondary fermentation. I think the instruction manual suggested that you can bottle straight from sample spigot but I'm concerned that either A. the end of the tube will be...

Worst Commercial Beer You've Ever Had?

I spend a month a year in various 3rd world countries and I'd have to add some of their local beers to the conversation. They always sport a super light pilsner but I don't think with the same eye for detail as western companies plus lack of refrigeration in the sweltering heat, by the time it...

    Color Way, Way off

taste was excellent, I downed the whole hydrometer. come out at 9.45% alcohol and is very noticable but I planned to age this guy for a while so that should mellow out. everything is right on the money except for the color.

    Color Way, Way off

I brewed the Rochefort 8 clone extract kit from northern brewer a few weeks ago and began secondary fermentation just moments ago. When I took my hydrometer reading for the final gravity I noticed that the color was way off from what a rochefort 8 would be. I also entered the recipe into...

    Starter All-Grain Equipment

Does anybody have any recommendations for a good starter set of All-Grain equipment? I don't have the space, tools or desire to build my own so I'm looking at off the shelf commercial sets. I've read that you need a 10 gallon system if you're looking to make high gravity 5 gallon batches (which...

First brew in progress, waiting on lower temp.

You can speed up the cool-down with a wort chiller. It looks badass and is great for the impatient brewer and actually improves your chances of making great beer because the cool-down is a vulnerable time for your beer.

    Evaporation Rate of Airlock

well I don't think yeast are self propelled and probably require air currents of some sort to amble by gracefully. By second chamber of an airlock I'd think the air would be pretty still.

    Temperature Compromise for Apartment Fermenting/Aging

I live in a small apartment and am torn as to what temperature to keep the place. Sounds like a stupid question but I need a compromise between two different beer related activities: 1. Fermenting (Should be 65-75 degrees for ales) 2. Aging (50-55 degrees, not lagering but for extended aging...

    Evaporation Rate of Airlock

I don't, but that is an interesting point. seems like you could keep critters out with maybe a paper towel and a rubber band.

    Evaporation Rate of Airlock

Thanks everybody! I googled the bejesus out of that and couldn't get an answer. love this site!

    Evaporation Rate of Airlock

I am going on a long trip (5-weeks) and hope to have a batch moved into secondary fermentation right before the start of the trip. My only concern is that the water in the airlock will dry out before I can return. Has anybody here left a water-filled airlock for that period of time before...

Adapting a Frosty Keg Kegerator to Cornelius

Does anyone have experience with a Frosty Keg brand Kegerator? I have been using mine successfully with commercial kegs for a few months now but have run into trouble when attempting to hookup a cornelius keg for my homebrew. The problem is that the fittings for the beer line seem to be very...
