Warning to Spike Trio/Electric Brewing users

I'll chime in a bit late, but I if spike were a reputable company, they would have sent replacement parts free of charge to the OP at a minimum, better would be send for it to be shipped back, inspected and repaired free of charge. It is a definite obfuscation to say regular maintenance...

Determining Conversion Efficiency in "All-in-one" electric systems

My question is just why? If you are wanting a big brew, just drop from 5g batch down to 4. 20% reduction in grain, so 20 instead of 25, or even drop to 3 gallon and you can make it bigger. And not run the risk of a major mishap and fry the electonics

    Mouse Droppings Around Grain Mill

Poison? Like to smell them dead? Nope, traps.

How Many Gallons Brewed in 2022

4269.5 adding 5 gal of scottish ale and 5 gal of a saison.

    Mouse Droppings Around Grain Mill

Vacuum it off, wipe it off and if you want, use a sanitize wipe or two on it, or just rag with some alcohol. Don't be so anal, I would never run grain through it and throw it away, just use it. Running grain through it won't clean it..blow it off good after next use and put inside a plastic...

How do you increase the wort gravity

Really? DmE? Not in my beer. Would just rather use a pound of table sugar. And caramelized is just what you have with all the canned wort. Just boil longer.... best and easiest answer. But what do I know, I just brew 8% and under beers...

How do you increase the wort gravity

Sparge more is wrong. You sparge with set volume for your brew, Too much water will reduce your gravity, and will introduce way too many flavors that make your beer taste like poo. Increase grain to a limit. And boil longer.

What is your favorite way to increase efficiency in Anvil foundry?

I do a simple one gallon room temp sparge at the end. Way easy to save the last gallon and just do a 10 minute sparge.

How would you store a freshly made keg of beer?

First, don't brew any more beer until you empty one or two kegs. Problem goes away. But if you have the ability to store cooler than room temp, do so. Beers in a keg will last a lot longer than you think at relatively cool ramps. If your room temp is 80f, it will degrade faster than at 40f...

Bent lid opening? Worth trying to salvage?

I see a small cut on edge. If I bought local, I'd take back. If on line, I'd be contacting seller. But if it holds pressure, no issue. I would not think you are going to move it back where it was originally. It will distort in another area if you start banging on it. If you keep, I'd file...

Large grain storage - 55 Gallon drum?

There are large plastic liners that will fit 55 Gallon drums. Order you a few of them. I wouldn't use garbage bags either. To many have scents and are junk plastic.

How much better is 240 v?

Let's just say that the 120v option is really slow. And the 240v option is as fast as my propane burner system was with way less effort. And my saison is great

    Resident Weevil

You guys can be so anal. Watch ALL your grains. We had weevils in rice. So last I bought (25lb bag) was divided up and most went into the freezer. We pull out as needed. All flour is put inside zip locks or other closed containers and if there is contamination, it is restricted to one...

    Guinness Clone Questions

At least to my palate, there is no souring to Guinness. I would use an English 2 row, not any American grain..... there is a difference

    MSDS Binder

No, it is a waste of time to keep this sort of thing in a home. You are REALLY going to waste precious minutes finding and then reading an msds for something your child ate? Call 911.....

    MSDS Binder

Msds? I dealt with these almost my 40 year working life. Made them, kept up with the dang things, and managed them later on, and the folks who kept up with them. A complete waste of time in my opinion. Just another make work from our not friends at the federal government. No one referenced...

Anvil Foundry sparge or no sparge?

Just did a saison this morning. Stirred often and picked up the cylinder, ( btw, I've the original with holes on sides, and I added a sheet of aluminum to cover. ) letting it drain most of the liquid 5 times. Sparged with 1 gallon of room temp water and there was practically no sugar I could...

    1% Iodine for sanitizing

Don't get me wrong, star San works, I too have used idophore for decades. Don't like to use on plastics, it yellows, but doesn't really harm it. I think having both is a good idea. Rotate and kill everything.

Do I need a utility sink?

It all depends on your situation. If you don't have water or drain, it isn't a good option. I don't have any in my garage either. But I don't have a permanent set place to brew either. I have my filter for brew water in my basement shower that is rarely used for people. I have to then move...

    1% Iodine for sanitizing

Not true, as long as it smells like iodine it is effective. It won't last but a few days, but is not immediate toss. And starsan deteriorates with time also....
