    Glass jars for freezing pellets?

That product probably works great, but they won't create the same vacuum as a vacuum machine channel bag does. The bags normally used in. FoodSaver machines and their kind have a back sheet that feels pebbled. They are called channel bags because the pebbled side creates a one way channel...

    Glass jars for freezing pellets?

I should say I am not using Mylar bags at all. Just the plastic rolls of freezer bag material. But they are pretty thick. More thick than ziplock bags.

    Glass jars for freezing pellets?

Let us know if it works. I don’t have a FoodSaver but it looks like it should work.

    Glass jars for freezing pellets?

I just ordered a large roll of vacuum bag material. comes in a box with a cutter built in. The cost per use is virtually zero

    Glass jars for freezing pellets?

Ok, I think I've found what works for me. My vacuum bags come in long rolls. So instead of vacuum bagging an ounce each time, I vacuum bag a large amount. I leave an extra six inches of bag at one end I use scissors to cut away the seal, take out an ounce, then use the machine to vacuum...

    Glass jars for freezing pellets?

Pellets stored in glass jars, purged with co2 and frozen? I read about how well frozen hop pellets last in the freezer. And I have a vacuum pack machine. But the vacuum bagging method is not convenient. I have to open a bag containing many ounces of pellets, just to use one ounce. And...

    Sterilizing that head space

Yeah, I think we are all using the same basic idea. Since I package in small ten liter kegs, my systems are smaller. I store my starsan in a five gallon bucket. I pour this into my keg then use an inverted one liter plastic bottle as my "dedicated starsan keg" for topping up and out of the...

    EVA Barrier Line conversion

Tell me a bit more about the SS please. Where did you get parts and how did you make connections?

    Sterilizing that head space

the the Yes that would certainly sanitize it. But I'm thinking more about the complete removal of oxygen. The initial responders have got me curious about that.

    Sterilizing that head space

One more question. Both of you are using gas to push through the entire liquid content of a keg. I'm not. I am just pouring starsan from my five gallon bucket, into the top of my serving keg , using gravity. My method uses much less gas. I just use gravity. Is there some advantage to...

    Sterilizing that head space

Both are nice solutions, thx If you are filling the receiving keg from a designated supply keg, I imagine the supply keg would have to have a little bit more capacity than the receiving keg. Either a bigger keg, or prefill some starsan into the receiving keg before you start?

    Sterilizing that head space

I"m sure many folk aleady do this, but today's discovery was fun, so thought I'd share. I've started sterilizing my small kegs by filling them with starsan and pushing it all through with co2. Using fermentation gas when I can, otherwise with bottle gas. But I know that when I fill the keg...

Is there a way to remove a hop bong without exposing wort to air?

Yeah, @Whisky River I agree. I could buy a second butterly valve. But I would also have to buy another corny lid that flares up to a TC fitting under it. I think I'll just stay the way I am. I just brew in series anyway, not in parallel. I brew around the first of the month and...

Is there a way to remove a hop bong without exposing wort to air?

Good morning all I have just started using a hop bong. Photo below. It appears that I have to keep the bottom half of the device attached to the keg, all the way through to the closed transfer. I pitch the yeast into my corny keg, attach the hop bong and close the butterfly valve. I can...

    When to dry hop

Wild idea, that perhaps adding hop pellets at yeast pitch can DECREASE risk of infection. Adding hop pellets means you are adding a pile of anti-microbial agents, just at the time that the vulnerable wort needs protection the most.

    When to dry hop

That point seems true. The idea that even at yeast pitch, the introduction of pellets doesn't seem to cause infection. While unsanitized items can cause infection. I have dry hopped at yeast pitch. I had no choice, as my hop bong was tied up with another batch. I'm now doing cold side...

    Refractometer and hydrometer not agreeing

Sigh. Nothing is perfect. I can see why people just stick with a hydrometer. It does work and is simple. There was a post earlier about an easier to read hydrometer. That certainly is worry free. https://fhsteinbart.com/product/specific-gravity-range-precision-hydrometer-1000-1070-sg/

    When to dry hop

Me too. It makes sense that if you want to take advantage of yeast biotransformation, and you own a hop bong, no point dry hopping at yeast pitch. For a couple days from pitch time there will be no benefit. And there is a risk of infection. IF you have a hop bong, better to wait a bit...
