Owmatooth- been waiting to post back to you. I was really excited to try your recipe. Went right out and got some Motts (you got the Motts? LOL). After 8 days I cold crashed. Just finished forced carbonation (got a kit). It's a bit too sweet but amazing how great it tastes otherwise!!!! I...

Forced carbonation question with a soda stream?

That's really cool. Ok now it has me thinking. I have a kegerator at home. Don't have a home brewing type keg yet. But I have the C02 supply, lines and gauges. So maybe there's some sort of DIY setup I can make with a soda bottle and some sort of fitting like in your link?

Forced carbonation question with a soda stream?

Crazy question, but... Can I use one of these to force carbonate? Either directly in a 12 oz bottle or a 1 gallon carboy? Its basically a C02 cartridge in the back.

Help a newbie plan out a year

Here's what I did: All equipment was cleaned and sterilized with PBW and Star Sanitizer. I started with 1 gallon of fresh cider from a health food store. Add some Pectinase 1 hour before dosing (followed directions on bottle) Used Nottingham Ale Yeast -- Followed directions and pitched the...

Help a newbie plan out a year

I've just finished my first batch (100 days from pitching) and while I had tons of fun and learned alot, it was just OK tasting. Now I understand what people mean when they say it needs to age more. I'm hearing 6 months to a year at least for better tasting Cider? So it got me thinking, if I...

Dumb question but have to ask...

How long do you brew your cider to get a good taste naturally?

Dumb question but have to ask...

thanks that does make sense. I did use Nottingham Ale yeast actually. My batch is actually 100 days tomorrow -- which also happens to be my birthday :-) So planing to drink some then, maybe one or two bottles. My other batches running are using Brewers Best Cider House Select yeast. Those are...

Dumb question but have to ask...

Newbie here. Just about finished my first bartch. And I gotta ask.. Ok, so I tested a few samples along the way. And now I'm bottling and back sweetening. It seems like it supposed to taste very bland, with no real flavor? Mine clearly tastes like alcohol but no trace of apple. I used real...

    Back Carbonating Working??

So just looked at my bag of Dextrose. It says 2.5 tsp = 8 grams. So according to that sounds like I'm definitely underdosing. According to my calculations I should be at about 1/3 teaspoon per bottle, or 1/2 as you say. Darn. Been sitting there for two weeks like this. Ok will try. How...

    Back Carbonating Working??

Hi all, Just finishing up my first batch of cider. Two weeks ago I bottled and did my "back carbonating". I also added some sweetener too. But not sure if the carbonation is really working. I added 1/8 tsp of dextrose for the carbonation. How long should it take? should I add more dextrose...

    Will my cider clear?

Update: I moved my brew to the fridge for a few days. Not only did it not speed up the clearing process it actually seems less clear than before. Maybe b/c I moved it (tried not to shake it).

    Will my cider clear?

:-) Yea. Actually I used "pectic enzyme" which has Pectinase in it.

    Will my cider clear?

    Will my cider clear?

Ok thanks all. My plan was this: its currently in secondary racking just letting things age and settle. this week I was planning to: - taste and possibly back sweeten with either some stevia or apple extract. I understand these alcohol based sweeteners dont cause fermentation/bubbling...

    Will my cider clear?

Thanks!!! Right now it's in the cellar and 66 degrees. It's only a one gallon Carboy so can easily fit in the fridge. Ok so I'm still so new to this. It's my first batch. My plan was to bottle next, back carbonate and sweeten a bit and let sit in bottles in basement. I'm guessing I still do...

    Will my cider clear?

Hi This is my first batch. I added pectin and hour before I added yeast. Pitched 7 weeks ago. I think I'm ready to bottle. It's Not clear and that's ok for my first batch. But I'm noticing now the first inch or so of my batch looks really clear! I'm thinking maybe after time it will...

    Yeast stopping?

thanks. that was my next question -- with only a 1 gallon brew right now how do test for SG without losing half a bottle of brew? so its ok to dump it back in if both the hydrometer and thief are sterilized??
  19. B

    Yeast stopping?

Ok great. Had no idea! So two more questions. First I actually have two simple hydrometers used for my saltwater tank. Plastic with plastic arms. Can I use? Second it obviously takes a lot more cider than a few drops to measure. I think I should only measure sparingly otherwise I won't...

    Yeast stopping?

Wow thanks. I just did some reading based on your comments. Seems like I have to determine my correction factor to really know the SG. And to do that really seems like a ton of work!! Oh boy. I thought having this refractometer was gonna make things simpler :-) Until I can get multiple...
