    Convert a commercial keg?

I've had this used keg sitting around for years. Can I use it for my home cider brewing? I know it has a different top from my Corny keg I currently use. Still a newbie and wondering how to open this up, clean it, stock it and connect to my tap and Co2 regulator.

    Love this simple cider recipe

Hi Ixthys, thats correct. No secondary fermenting. If you want to add sweetener I guess you can but I never think its needed. Now I did forget to mention carbonation. I used to force carbonate mine with a C02 tank, a 2 liter soda bottle and a carbonator cap. But recently I've graduated to...

    Love this simple cider recipe

Lol sorry. So basic I forgot to post it. Motts apple juice. Obviously not the type that's pasteurized. I buy it for $9 for 2 gallons at Costco. Or is it $4.50. Either way dirt cheap. I use Nottingham Ale yeast but want to experiment with other. Ferment it for 8-10 days depending on taste...

    Love this simple cider recipe

Hi folks, Been awhile since I've posted or lurked here. I think it was this forum that tipped me off on this simple recipe. I wanted to share my experience since Iove it so much.... When I first discovered the world of cider brewing I tried to go the purist route of getting the right apple...

    Great fall/autumn flavors to add?

So sorry not getting back to you on this. Super easy, I just add it after carbing and before bottling. In fact I have a feeling the flavor dissipates over time and this can be added back as needed.

    Great fall/autumn flavors to add?

Been meaning to post an update here. I went out looking for the spices and in the spice section of the grocery store I found this! I really think it give a nice, fall-ish taste. And it great b/c you can add a couple drops, taste, add some more. Much easier than guessing at how many cloves to...

    Great fall/autumn flavors to add?

I'm still new here but have the basics down to making some easy simply cider. My favorite is something with a fall or autumn spice. I have a small bottle of apple extract that I add on occasion to make my batch more apply. What kinds of flavors / spices have people added in the past that...

    transporting after carbing

So we're going away this weekend and I'd like to bring some of by brew. I've been force carbing my latest batch. Newbie question: once carbinated can I keep it in a 1 gallon carboy or will the pressure make it explode? I do have bottles groesch style and figure I can bottle it. We have quite a...

    Dry Hopping

    Dry Hopping

Ok so I dropped them in last Thursday. Racked the batch to a new container on Tuesday. Total 5 days. Initial tastes so far seem positive. Will know once I force carb and pour a glass tomorrow night. Originally I thought I used too much b/c the aroma and taste tests were pretty strong. But I...

    Dry Hopping

So hops arrived yesterday. First time I've ever even seen a hop let alone worked with any. I LOVED the aroma they put off, smelled like an IPA :-) Working with a 1 gallon batch of cider that I cold crashed and moved into secondary I: 1) Measured out about a half ounce mix of: columbus...

    Dry Hopping

Hops arriving later today. Cold crashed batch to stop fermentation. Transferred to secondary. Will measure out a small amount of combined hops and drop into batch. I heard 1 to 4 ounces per 5 gallon batch is a good place to start I do on3 Gallon batches so this will be a small amount! I may...

    Dry Hopping

great will do. been researching a bit. Can get 1oz packaets of hop "pellets" versus 1lb bafgs of actual hop plants. Either one should work?? So sounds like "dry hopping" is simply placing the pellets/hops in the batch once fermentation is done? maybe after racking to secondary? and leave there...

    Flavorless Cider

HI I'm still new and learning here but I'll chime in. Sounds like maybe you waited a little long so its on the "dry" side (versus the "sweet" side). Basically the longer you wait the more sugar the yeast will consume until it runs out and goes dormant. Both the corn sugar and brown sugar was...

Help a newbie plan out a year

Thanks, I'll do that. WIll measure tomorrow which will be another week+ later and see. WIll also give it a taste. LOL. I'm far from a cider snob and would be hapy if I could replicate the standard commercial stuff. Would be awesome if I could have a quick and easy way to make something like...
