Can I condition in a growler?

Fermenting doesn't create any noticeable pressure as long as an airlock is used. Filling a growler with already carbed beer also doesn't make much pressure as long as it's not done with a counter pressure bottle filler. There is a small amount of pressure as your beer lets off some c02 but...

    Rayon Vert bottles- infected?

I use green flash bottles all the time with no problems. They're my favorite bottles.

Is there a good euphemism for "infection"?

Just say it was brewed with an additional catalyst. "I didn't know how this ale was going to turn out because of the extra catalyst, but I'm pleasantly surprised at the complexity."

When to put in the dry hops?

I wait a week after my krausen falls so that my beer is mostly clear then I rack to a secondary on the dry hops. I usually give it a week in the secondary before I carefully either rack to a keg or bottling bucket. If you're careful and attentive during racking there are little to no particles...

forgot to buy steeping bag - alternative?

Laundry bags (the kind you wash delicates in) work great. They're no more than 2 or 3 bucks and they come in different sizes. You can even get them with a zipper so that you can just toss it in and stir away without dealing with untying the bag when you're done.

    CL find near Pittsburgh

These are all over the place where I live southeast of the city. They look pretty solid, I've been considering picking one up. There was a local business that did nothing but make rain barrels and composters out of these.

    Transfer from a sanke question

Thanks for the advice. I ended up taking a little from both. The half barrel was half empty and I had an empty quarter barrel so I attached the beer out line from their coupler to the beer out line of my sanke coupler (with check valve ball removed), pulled my relief valve slightly and let in...

    Transfer from a sanke question

The bar I work at has a half barrel of victory Golden Monkey that they can't sell. They've offered to give it to me if I can take the beer but leave the keg. I have empty cornies and empty sankes, I just don't know how to transfer from their keg to mine. Any suggestions?

    Fraternity Closet Brew

Yes, you can make a good stout with that yeast, and yes, yeast does make all the difference (or at least some of the difference). Us-05 is a clean transparent yeast, I find it's great for showing off ingredients without distracting with yeast profile.

    Welches Grape questions

I've made that recipe from his site a few times. Everything saramc said is spot on. It's going to have some weird tastes as you put it for a good while. What yeast did you use? I've done well with lalvin rc-212 with welches red. I was down to 1.000 in about 5 days. After 3 months bulk...

I saw that too, and I'm a sucker for rewards programs! Think this has something to do with Northern Brewer's prices dropping?

    I think I malted corn?

I split the 5 gallon bucket into smaller portions so I can experiment. The first batch I dried at about 150. After I read this, I tried one at 120. I ate a kernel after I dried it and odd as it sounds it tasted like cucumber. I can't wait to see how it works in beer. I'm going to try...
