    summer saison - Yosemite bound!

Thanks for all of the great replies guys! I appreciate the input. So it seems like a decent start then. That's good. CJPaul: I will not add any crystal - that was my original thought too, which is why I left it out of the recipe, but thought I would ask anyways. As for the coriander - I...

    summer saison - Yosemite bound!

Ok all, please critique this recipe. I've been doing quite a bit of research and have about 20 self formulated all grains under my belt, but I've never done a saison. This is for my annual 'mans trip' at the end of June. So here it goes, I think I have a good recipe for the grains/hops/yeast I...

    Show Us Your Label

My God, I am seriously embarrassed after seeing the quality of labels on this thread. Here is a very rough set of labels for my brewing on demand (BOD) tap handles for my 3 keg garage 5cf keezer. Basically just to know which one you're pouring.... don't judge... Ok, judge... whatever.

Another 'whats wrong!?' post... but please help!

So do you think that I should prune these first guys then? I've been wondering that, since I know that most do cut down the first shoots in early spring.... Just don't know myself.

By the way - nice hop field pics! It's nice to see another CA guy. I'm originally from Fallbrook - kinda your neck of the woods... kinda.

Another 'whats wrong!?' post... but please help!

Thanks Steadfast, I guess I'm just a little disappointed in what has happened. Last year was year 1 and they were taking off by now it seems... It gets me down since I really feel like I have green thumb and understanding of plants' needs... Oh well, lets hope that they get spurred on soon...

Another 'whats wrong!?' post... but please help!

So for an update: I removed the mulch, drilled several 1"dia holes in the side at the bottom, and leached the soil with a steady stream of water (no overflowing) in each container for several hours each. While they are not showing incredible signs of growth, they also haven't deteriorated any...

Dry Hopping Question Black IPA, CDA

Thanks cyclonite. That sounds like a plan. Would you dry hop at room temp for a period before chilling, or chill immediately after putting the hops in?

Thanks for all of the great replies. Here is what I'm doing: 1) Remove all Mulch 2) Elevate planters on bricks and drill several 1" dia. holes at bottom of side panels, all around. 3) "Leach" for several hours each planter. See how they do! Thanks again.

Another 'whats wrong!?' post... but please help!

Thanks wrench, I have a feeling that they might be the main culprit now that I think of them. SWMBO thought that it would look prettier if she put the mulch over them - she put some of this stuff down in other areas of the yard and had some left over. I don't think they're burnt, but probably...

Another 'whats wrong!?' post... but please help!

Oh, and they all grew very aggressively last year - which is why I'm shocked that I don't have the beginning to a forest already this year?? Am I being to worried? To me, they should be way better than this by now...

Another 'whats wrong!?' post... but please help!

Hey all, First, let me preface by saying that I have scoured any resources that I could find to answer it myself, but to no avail... Also, I consider myself pretty green-thumbed, and have a pretty good understanding of pH, N-P-K needs and symptoms, and general pest problems. These are all...

Dry Hopping Question Black IPA, CDA

Ok - thanks for all of the feedback. I guess that I'm just going to go with the 2oz of each variety at a time for 5-7 days each. I'm in no rush at the moment, as the keezer still has two taps-a-flowin... What is the general consensus on when to start the dry hop. I'm just about done with the...

Dry Hopping Question Black IPA, CDA

Thanks bomber - I wasn't sure, I've only dry hopped 2-3 times and just haven't gotten a hang of it yet. Was that a 5gal batch? I tasted the sample and the malts and bitterness are there, but just not much in way of aroma. So mayber 2oz of each? That brings me back to my original...

Dry Hopping Question Black IPA, CDA

Oh, here is the recipe: I was going for a maybe a slightly more malty profile than similar beers of this style, and was hoping to get a little more mouth feel to counter the low mash temp - hence my crystal choices and amounts, as well as the aromatic and flaked grains. Grain: 12# US...
