    Getting everything set up

New to the forum and only have about 6 months of brewing under my belt and I have some questions as searching on my phone is tedious and labor consuming. I'm looking for plans/forms/ideas on how to expand my operation step by step. Currently I have 7 5 gallon tubs sitting around bubbling with...

    Brewing with my son

So the best way to use yeast and control it is let it carb for a day or two and cold crash it halting the yeast growth. Interesting. Makes me wonder about making a root "beer" for the adults who love sassafras in the house. Just add more adjuncts and leave for a while I'm guessing? Time to...

How much would it cost to start a brewery?

Okay interesting discussion I didn't see addressed an issue that I myself thought of. I don't want a "brewery". I want some Equipment and brew enough to support it. I make 50k and want to sustain that with me and maybe a friend doing it. It seems that with minimal equipment all expenses and...

    Brewing with my son

That was my thought. That traditionally root beer had between .5 and 2% abv. Which is something I'm not concerned about (the .5 not the 2) but I'm worried that using a champagne might cause the percentage to balloon. I like sweet root beer

    Brewing with my son

So I've been doing some searches through here on recipes and methods an I have a few questions. Last week my son asked if we could brew something he could drink. He's 8. So I've been looking into root beer and Ginger ale and cream soda. Ive made root beer from extract many times and carbonated...

    Irish red

Yeah scooby I've...uh...noticed the regularity :) and yes a part of what I enjoyed was the sweet but I can handle it being less sweet I think it was the overall taste of the wort in general. A good mellow feel a slight bitter at the end. I plan on leaving it for the rest of the ferment and I...

    It exploded!

Wish I had taken a picture when it happened but was kinda panicked a little. I really should have left the dry hops till the last week but I had to rack it to secondary. I have one carboy that I like to use for primaries and I started a second batch on Monday. Should just leave my hops to boiling :)

    Irish red

I figure it will change some I just kind of wish I wouldn't much. I'm gonna save the recipe and compare when finished to determine any changes to make. I'm just real pleased with it's texture and flavor currently.

    Irish red

So I have an Irish red recipe that I modified some. Added some honey and sugar to boost abv. I tried some last night, now this is only it's second day, and I have to say at this point it is one of the most delightful beers I've ever had. I could sit there and drink all day long. Now granted it...

    It exploded!

I haven't had a chance to go this year. Kids and hospitals and work etc. But I hope to get some good hiking in :)

    It exploded!

Ah thank you very much. It was my first attempt at dry hopping and yeah i see the error in that now. That's what I get for late night brewing :) I think I'll try the dry hopping when it gets to my secondary. For now I have lovely Irish stout carpet.

    It exploded!

Dear forum, I've been pressing this site about a month now finding suggestions and tips and now I have a question. Last night some hops got into my blow off tube and popped my top (lesson learned, if dry hopping use a bag!) so the question is. What sort of contamination am I looking at. Probably...
