That's not a bad idea, but it's a lot more work than just finding a cooler to fit it in. ;)

What if I want constant flow during the mash? I plan on getting a pump. As in recirculating, not necessarily fly sparging.

I guess it was my way of trying to achieve an even drain in a cooler... The marbles in a fine mesh bag idea might work if there is a bag strong enough to hold 40# of marbles?

If I need to split a batch into separate fermenters, will there be a difference between them? For example, will the one filled from lower in the kettle be stronger or better? Would it be best to try to rotate between filling the two to keep the character as close as possible?

I am new to brewing, having only made a handful of batches with the extract kit / partial brew / bucket system, and I plan to continue learning and doing this for a while, eventually moving to partial mash and then full mash. Meanwhile, in the medium term (6-12 months, or sooner if possible)...

I could be wrong here, but if you are asking if you can measure the cooled wort before adding water to get to 5 gallons (presumably), then the answer is no. I've done that.
