Sizing your Chest Freezer for Corny Kegs

Score! Just bought this baby on craigslist for $70: http://cleveland.craigslist.org/app/2269251819.html 64 x 36 x 30 It holds 10 kegs loosely! Or 8 kegs and 2 carboys... Or 6 kegs and 3 carboys... Or...:ban:

Has anyone ever put a sink inside a cooler?

    This holds 11.77 if I did my maths right http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000UNSNGA/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 (21.25/12) x (16/12) x (8/12) = cubic feet 1 cubic foot = 7.48 gallons However, that's still a bit snug for a 10 gallon batch...

    Crazy Question: Marbles

That was the biggest concern I had about the idea... :(

Has anyone ever put a sink inside a cooler?

That's not a bad idea, but it's a lot more work than just finding a cooler to fit it in. ;)

    Crazy Question: Marbles

What if I want constant flow during the mash? I plan on getting a pump. As in recirculating, not necessarily fly sparging.

    heat, not head :cross:

    Crazy Question: Marbles

I guess it was my way of trying to achieve an even drain in a cooler... The marbles in a fine mesh bag idea might work if there is a bag strong enough to hold 40# of marbles?

Has anyone ever put a sink inside a cooler?

I've been trying to decide how to build my mash tun, and I like aspects of both coolers (heat retention) and stock pots (no scratching / no BPA). I've been tossing around the idea of fitting a stainless sink inside of a large cooler. Any ideas on whether a drain can be fitted with the proper...

    Crazy Question: Marbles

I'm looking into setting up an all-grain system, and I'm working out the mash/lautering details. Has anyone ever tried using 1000 or 2000 marbles as a filter? Could this work? There is no assembly work. And it's about $10 for 1000 marbles...

    Can I build a half-barrel system for under $2000?

is this a good deal to start with? http://www.midwestsupplies.com/20-gallon-all-grain-commercial-quality-kettle-kit.html $600 shipped, and the valves, false-bottom, and thermometer are included.

Splitting a batch into 2 fermenters

If I need to split a batch into separate fermenters, will there be a difference between them? For example, will the one filled from lower in the kettle be stronger or better? Would it be best to try to rotate between filling the two to keep the character as close as possible?

    Are You Saving Money?

I don't know of any places that sell GL by the case, but maybe Costco or Sam's Club. When it's on sale, you can sometimes find a 12 for $15.99 or, rarely, $14.99. But who waits around for a sale to buy beer? :mug: I just went on a beer vacation, visiting 10 breweries/brewpubs in Ohio and...

    Are You Saving Money?

My starter brewing kit cost about $120. Depending on the style, it costs $40-$55 for me to produce 2 cases after everything (ingredients, bottle caps, water, gas, cleaner, etc). That's roughly $1 per beer before you factor in the initial cost of equipment. The full algorithm would be...

    Can I build a half-barrel system for under $2000?

To be honest, I have a thing for Marzen/Oktoberfest beers. I'd like to cook more at one time and have it on tap as often as possible. I would continue to bottle my ales. At least, that's the plan. Bottling that many beers is daunting, but as I said, I have friends who will work for beer. :tank...

How much finished beer does that beauty make? Those are all regular kegs, right?

    Can I build a half-barrel system for under $2000?

That looks pretty close to what I had in mind. I'll be reading that thread, and probably asking you a ton of questions, if you don't mind.

    Can I build a half-barrel system for under $2000?

I am new to brewing, having only made a handful of batches with the extract kit / partial brew / bucket system, and I plan to continue learning and doing this for a while, eventually moving to partial mash and then full mash. Meanwhile, in the medium term (6-12 months, or sooner if possible)...

Brew just boiled over a little bit...and how do I measure OG

I could be wrong here, but if you are asking if you can measure the cooled wort before adding water to get to 5 gallons (presumably), then the answer is no. I've done that.
