Bottle bombs are quite exciting though! Right up until the point where your cleaning up a few gallons of sticky.

    Boing MEad

small batch as in 1 gallon? or a 1.5 liter growler? Either way I think Ill give it a try next go around Any advantage of doing it this way, I would think the extra sugar and fruit pulp would add a little nutrient for the yeast to munch on.

    vanilla disappeared ?

thats actually a great idea. I get vanilla beans in a little vial, 2 beans. Should I keep the beans in the vial and fill up the vial with vodka and let it sit in there? or transfer it to another container first?

5 pounds of honey, one gallon of mead?

I guess, though half the fun is now knowing what will happen. thats part of the learning experience too. You start off way Positive and the next batch will be way negative and up and down the waves go positive negative till you mellow out right at 0 neutral and then you have a bunch of mead you...

First batch, tastes a bit carbonated/gassy

+1 Also make sure you kill of the fermentation process completly, would suck to have some nice bottles and have them shatter from the pressure. Been there done that but with 1 gallon mead. Sticky Sticky mess.

    vanilla disappeared ?

I use vanilla in pretty much everything I brew and In my experience i usually use quite a bit so its strong, and then it will mellow out, sometimes dissapear but come back with age. Though it really depends if you use the bean, crushed vanilla or extract. Thats just me though.

    Yeast question

Patience is right! I started a 5 pound to 1 gallon batch and its so damn slow I ended up buying another couple carboys so I could let the heavy one sit for a few months

5 pounds of honey, one gallon of mead?

I just started a 4 pound 1 gallon batch with Red Star Premier Cuvee yeast. Got airlock activity within 20 min and its going strong but slow. Lots of people said it wouldnt work but its all about trial and error. see what works and what dont.

    Slight Mistake

wholly chit. There was a lot of comments, Good news everyone. It seems to be fermenting! just very slowly. I started with SG of 1.160 and now it sits around 1.120 just 6 days later. Started on the 22. Let me know if this seems alright or if its going too fast or too slow.

    En Skal Til Odin

My Batch of En Skal Til Odin i think might be ready for secondary. No activity in the airlock. with the following readings: Its making me nervous that the SG isnt dropping, Should I kill of the yeast, put it into secondary with the clay of clearing and let it sit in secondary for a while...
