    Turkey Fryer deal

I filled it up about half and brought it to a boil the other night, keeping the basket in there as well. Man, that jet burner really produces a huge flame! I noticed that only the parts of the pot that were contacting water were browned a bit (makes sense, our well water has a bit more iron...

Purchasing All the Required Home Brew Components, Need Help/Judgement

No need to buy empty bottles. But some craft brew especially for when you're brewing the first time or two. Then you can clean and reuse those. Heck stop recycling them now, I'm sure you have some sitting around at home

    Beer kit overstock?

Don't these kits have shelf life? You best get brewing, else they go bad. Or I'm sure that a few of us fellow forum buddies could help you out getting these brewed. I'm sure they'd send you back a bottle or two :rockin:

    Home brew costs

Wow I'm seeing much cheaper prices than I'm accustomed to in the 4 batches I've done so far. I have just bought what I needed at the LHBS's though, so that probably explains some of it. It really seems like buying bulk is the way to go though. Plus, going all-grain over extract, as extract is a...

    Turkey Fryer deal

Welp, I feel like I was pretty indecisive, but the day after I bought the 7.5 gallon one, I was at Walmart and decided to take a look, and lo and behold, they had the 12.5 gallon steamer for the same price as the website. The Walmart website seemed to show that it needed to be shipped to the...

    Turkey Fryer deal

Yep that's true, however I figured that most of my brews coming up in the foreseeable future would be extract or partial extract BIAB and possible 3-5 gallon brews BIAB and sparge on grains after pulling them out of the pot It's very possible that I'll desire a bigger pot sooner rather than...

Why wait until late in boil to add of DME?

Yep that's basically it from my understanding

    Turkey Fryer deal

Thanks for the tips! I did assume that I would need to do some type of sparge on the grains after they were lifted out of the pot. You gave me some good ideas to do with it. That I'm not sure yet, I actually left it in the car, I'll post back with it when I get it open. Haha, I've been...

Dark Mild Reaper's Mild, 1st place 2011 HBT Competition

I'm drinking this bad boy right now after force carbing in the keg. It's pretty good, definitely a session ale. One thing I'll stress is the importance on the Maris Otter malt, and it was stressed in the recipe. Apparently in my haste to convert the recipe on the short notice brew day, I...

    Turkey Fryer deal

So I ended up not getting this. Since I'll probably stick with 5 gallon brews for the foreseeable future, my local Lowe's actually had this in stock: http://www.lowes.com/pd_607988-10792-TF2005115-BN-00___?productId=50277243&Ns=p_product_price|1&pl=1&Ntt=turkey+fryer Just over $30 out the door...

    Short boiling feasible?

This was a pretty interesting podcast from the Basic Brewing guys about the 15 minute boil brew: http://traffic.libsyn.com/basicbrewing/bbr09-18-14shortboil.mp3 Edit: I didn't know about the 2011 episode the previous poster mentioned, this one is from 09-18-2014

Good to hear! Yeah I saw the thermometer, assumed it'd be a nice extra but wasn't going to rely on it. I just started reading about the Wilser bags, seems like a good buy

    Turkey Fryer deal

Is it just me, or is ~$100 for a 12.5 gallon pot and 54,000 BTU burner not a great deal? http://www.walmart.com/ip/King-Kooker-50-Quart-Aluminum-Ridge-Pot-with-Steamer-Basket-and-Propane-Outdoor-Cooker-Package/19344396 It seems to me like the strainer would be pretty good for BIAB as well...

American Strong Ale Arrogant Bastard clone

Big thank you for posting this, tbeggs, it turned out fantastic. It was my second brew and it really is pretty close to the original. I wasn't expecting the Chinook to have that much bite with only 2 ounces for bittering, but here it is. Next time I think I'll make a starter for it, as it is...

    Buy Kegerator or DIY

I had trouble even finding a new one. I mean, from the perspective of using a mini fridge for normal use, I can see why a small freezer section would still be useful :p

    Buy Kegerator or DIY

I've found it nearly impossible to find a mini fridge without a freezer.... especially since it's generally the "chilling" part. Generally people get one that's bend-able and bend it back.
