Chocolate Wheat Porter or Black Pale Ale

Is that over-carbonated or just a vigorous pour you did? :p

Scored two corny kegs....help assessing condition.

I suppose you could simply have different CO2 connections off a distributor for ball or pin lock kegs eh.

Specialty IPA: Black IPA Heavenly Scourge Black IIPA

I used pellets for all the hops in this recipe. I put the hops into a voile bag from wilser. This is also my first time adding hops to the keg, so I'll see how it progresses. I've read some people taste a grassy flavor after a couple weeks. Others leave them in for a month until the keg is...

Specialty IPA: Black IPA Heavenly Scourge Black IIPA

So I decided to cold crash and keg it anyways. Glad I did. Kegged and burst carbed last night, put the 4oz of hops in and it was good. Having a pint tonight and it's fantastic. Since my OG was low at 1.070 but it fermented down to 1.010 I don't feel like I'm missing out on too much, in fact it's...

    Same taste in my beers

My first.... 4 batches were DME, one LME. I think they all turned out pretty decent, although the Arrogant Bastard clone did have a bit of a sweet flavor to it, but I might attribute that to being a ~1.070 OG beer and I just used a smack pack without a starter :D It's been mentioned a bit...

Specialty IPA: Black IPA Heavenly Scourge Black IIPA

Just took a reading after 11 days in the fermenter. Reading is 1.010 (from 1.070 OG) and it tastes nice and bitter with that awesome black IPA flavor. Used a yeast cake from a 1 gallon batch so not surprised it fermented down well. Used Wyeast American ale. I know I should probably be a good...

Scored two corny kegs....help assessing condition.

:rockin: However, it's a bit of a bummer if you want a beer and you have to run to the store for some more CO2....

Scored two corny kegs....help assessing condition.

The first thing you'd probably want to try and do is clean them, fill em up with CO2 and make sure there's no leaks.

British Brown Ale Nut Brown AG

Well I'm drinking my first pint of this. It was my first all-grain batch with my BIAB setup. Brew day went pretty well, I thought I was going to get a 75% efficiency but my boil off was actually higher than I guesstimated, so I got 5.1 gallons into the fermenter, although a 1.058 OG. The LHBS I...

I need advice on using vanilla beans

Right, that's the point, in addition to sanitizing the vanilla bean, to extract the flavor from it. Vodka, as strange as it is to say, is one of the most neutral spirits you could choose from.

I need advice on using vanilla beans

I bottled an oatmeal stout quite a few weeks ago. Added about 10 cups of coffee and only one vanilla bean that had been soaking in vodka for a week. The vodka came out really dark and smelled strongly of vanilla. Dumped the coffee and the vanilla-infused vodka into the bottling bucket. Long...

Specialty IPA: Black IPA Heavenly Scourge Black IIPA

Haha, that's good to hear. I have a dry hop bag I got from Wilser with the BIAB stuff, so I'll probably use that. I've been reading about how a lot of people use dental floss and tie the hop bag to the keg handle. Still undecided about that, as others just drop the bag in and rack on top of...

    wilserbrewer BIAB sale today, 3/6/16

Used my bag twice in two weeks after receiving them. Definitely worth it looking forward to many more brews with them :D

Specialty IPA: Black IPA Heavenly Scourge Black IIPA

I'm thinking about dry hopping the 4 ounces in the keg, anyone else done that with this one?

How does my crushed grains look for a first time BIAB?

With BIAB you can apparently crush it almost into flour. I am seeing it somewhat, but yeah looks like you can go further. I mention it because I just did a Black IPA with an expected 70% efficiency (which is about what I had on my first BIAB batch), but forgot to have my LHBS double crush it...

    Can yeast get you drunk?

Our bodies don't really seem like they would be hospitable to yeast. However, it's also strange that he would have felt the affects of the beer so much later. Maybe he had another drink with his sandwich? ;)

    Turkey Fryer deal

Quick update on the original 12.5 gallon deal, I've done two AG batches now with BIAB, and really enjoying it. It will definitely take some tweaking and learning as I go, but all in all I think it's a great combo at ~$100 to get going with. Also find it amazing now that when the wort gets...

Specialty IPA: Black IPA Heavenly Scourge Black IIPA

Second AG BIAB batch. I had made a galaxy-hopped beer starter and needed a big beer for it. I got pretty decent efficiency on the Nut Brown I did last week, however it seems like this one will need some tweaking next time, probably a sparge as well. Or possibly I just need to have the LHBS mill...

Just Thought of a Brilliant Cooling Method

I used some dry ice in the ice water bath during my second brew. All I can say is that dry ice was MAD. It bounced and jumped around quite violently. I can only imagine how much worse it would be pitching it directly into the hot wort. It would be much more than a vigorous boil. I also don't...

    Getting US-05 to taste clean

I'm glad I read this, as my first brew was an IPA from the LHBS. It used 2oz Cascade for flavor/aroma, and I decided to dry-hop with an additional 2oz. Of course, being my first brew ever, I sampled beers every couple days after less than a week of it being bottled. They had this strange fruity...
