Keezer + fermentation Chamber = Fail for me. Need help

So, I have a little chest freezer, and I thought it would be great to use it to power a fermentation chamber. Well, we've had some unseasonably warm temps here and I've discovered that for me, this combination will not work. I've got a fan pushing air from the bottom of the keezer into the...

What I did for beer today

My fermentation chamber needs it's brains, so I started to put that together and tomorrow will hook it up to the keezer to keep the temps moderated. Fun stuff.

    Deep cleaning a keg

I just cleaned up some kegs that had old beer, and one had a cyser in for 12 YEARS. Dismantle, replace the O-rings, and an overnight soak in a strong PBW solution took care of all the nastiness. Make sure to soak the dip tube as well.

What I did for beer today

2 perlick faucets came, so I put some of that fancy beverage line on them. Still, I have 20 gallons of home brew, and not a drop to drink. But soon, soon, maybe next weekend...

    Keg identification help

I think I've got it. http://www.dresselbrew.com/Keg_Info.htm From that site, and measuring the threads for the posts, it looks like it's either one of these John Wood 85, Firestone Challenger Gas 11/16" - 18 Liquid 3/4" - 18 Luckily enough, it looks like Williams Brewing has the parts I...

    Keg identification help

So, I've got a couple of these old 10 gallon kegs. They have no markings on them, other than a serial number. The in/out posts on them are ball lock, but the thread sizes are different than my 5 gallon corny kegs. The bev out dip tubes are also a little bit bigger than the 5 gallon kegs...

    Science Experiments

Well, the 2 10 gallon ones were clean and empty. A little pbw should take care of them. The 5 5 gallon kegs are all some variety of McNasty. 3 with just dregs, 1 with about a gallon of something, and 1 about 2/3 full of a nasty mead/cyser experiment... Ooofff, the smells...

    Science Experiments

Cleaning up some kegs after a 12 year hiatus. Some of the kegs are clean, some have some dregs, and 2 are full of some extremely strange science experiments.... :drunk: Wish me luck!

    Who's smoking meat this weekend?

Picked up a gen 1 MasterBuild 30 the other week. Been really using it a lot. Brewed up some pale ale last saturday while I smoked a chunk-o-brisket in it. Made Hot smoked salmon last night. Got a little AMNS thing coming tomorrow, so going to do some ribs in it Sunday. Just wish...

    My Recipe Builder Project

I'm with you fellers. I just started brewing again after a 12 year hiatus, but I found my old excel spreadsheets I used to use. I used to put them on a 'Velo', kind of a palm pilot type deal to update information, refer to during brewing, etc. Now I use my android tablet. Anywho, the point...

What I did for beer today

Went to the LHBS over lunch and bought a 50# sack of 2row, a bunch of specialty malts, way too much hops, and 3 different kinds of yeast. Looks like I'll be brewing a porter this weekend, and a pilsner the next! I say if anything is worth doing, it's worth overdoing. I'm going to get all my...

New way to control Pellet Hop gunk!

I have to admit, I ordered one of these last night. I've recently returned to the brewing fold and am using hop bags to hold my hops and this just seems like a much better solution.

Just brewed a batch after 20 years

Welcome back! I too, just restarted this last weekend after a 12 year hiatus. Feels good to smell the boiling wort and hops again. Although right now I'm quite easily amused by looking at the airlock on the fermenter and go to check it every hour our so....

What I did for beer today

Very basic recipe. I used pretty much the same recipe as my previous brew (12 years ago), except the LBHS didn't have 40l crystal, so I subbed in some 60l. 24# of 2 row pale malt, 2 pounds 60l crystal, .25# of chocolate. OG of 1063 About 73 ibu's of willamette and cascade hops. Now that I...

What I did for beer today

I can't really pin the hiatus on anything in particular. Just kind of stopped one day and other hobbies took over. I've always been planning on getting back into it and started the process last august. I have a bit of a get together scheduled in a couple of months so thought it would be...

What I did for beer today

Completed my first brew in 12 years yesterday. Today I bought some more camlock fittings, another pump, a big o ring for my plastic conical fermenter, some other odds and ends in order to get ready to do another brew on May 4th! Also made this. I've got fermentation!
