British Golden Ale Miraculix Best - Classic English Ale

Haven't tried the yeast "suicide" yet but will. Been caught up in trekking and backpacking this summer amongst other stuff.

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

Ron Pattinson - worth checking out. Today he spoke about mild at Machine House brewery in Seattle. He really knows about historical beer, the brewery had 5 milds on cask: My favorite of the historical was the 1905 Albany. That was a pretty unique taste with 6 row, 25% flaked corn and a bunch...

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

I'm testing out a second brew of Tony's Pre-1979 Boddington's with Chevallier malt right now. I've brewed it several times with Maris Otter, and today using up the last of my Chevallier on a 7 gallon batch. I really like the recipe, and Boddy's in the nitro can has been a go to since I was...

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

Would LOVE to try Anchor Steam on cask. It is open fermented for a start. In 1980 Anchor Steam was the first "real" beer I'd ever had. It's still my benchmark, and it's not a "good" beer to me until it is equivalently as good as "anchor steam". Master Brewers podcast 124 with Fritz Maytag is a...

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

I have my ticket to RonniePat at Machine House Brewery on 25 August. It's a work night, and I have to take a call part way thru, but them's the breaks. John Keeling is arguably even more enticing. His tix are not yet on sale. Will see. I've got to see a mountain about a route...so to speak.

    Your favourite AK recipe?

I may be forced to attend John Keeling's Fuller's session. Ronnie I think I will join the Machine House Brewing Mild session instead of Foggy Bottom

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

John Keeling looks freakin awesome. I've never actually been to Foggy Bottom but it is only about a half hour drive away. Plenty of the local brew crew swear by the place.

Nothing against foggy bottom, but Ron Pattinson is also going to be at Machine House on July 25 talking about Mild. And y'all know I love the Machine House Mild. It's on their instagram (which is a rabbit hole I don't go down) but I will be calling tomorrow to phone in my reservation.

Who’s still brewing Belgian-style ales and what’s your favorite recipe?

Just marking this thread to follow it. Carry on.

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

My two cents on Black Treacle. I found that a very small amount, say 1-2 ounces or 50-60grams for 5 gallons (20 liters), improved the ale. Mouth feel was better. It was a small improvement but I did do a couple of split batches and preferred the very light touch of a bit of black treacle. I...

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

I found that maize will be balanced with a higher IBU. I have done side by side brews for comparison. Corn adds some sweetness that off sets higher bittering. Whereas the experiment with corn was balanced, the same IBU level without the corn was overly harsh.

BTW, Ron Pattinson is going to be in the Seattle area the end of July. He will be at Machine House and at Foggy Bottom, and not sure where else. Foggy Bottom has tickets on sale, but I'm waiting for Machine House to announce their gig.

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

@Northern_Brewer @Derp If either of you come to Seattle and don't let me shout you a mild from Machine House, then I'm going to be seriously cheesed off. Methinks the Machine House Mild is the dog's bollocks, but I've never visited the UK and have nothing to judge it against. Would welcome a...

British Golden Ale Miraculix Best - Classic English Ale

It's about time for me to make a suicide mix of all the english yeasties I've got in the library. Probably close to 20. I haven't done this is a while. My learning is not to put in every yeast. If one has a POF- or an off flavor you don't like, that's probably going to come thru in the final...

British Golden Ale Miraculix Best - Classic English Ale

Chris White did a recent Beer Smith podcast. Chris is now promoting mixing strains. ;) WLP002 is popular for flocculation properties. Here's a White Labs 2014 NHC presentation "A guide to blending yeast strains". The example used is WLP002 and WLP007. Whilst no one at White Labs will admit...

Danish Farmhouse Ale - 2 recipes from 1868

I can categorically state that the Backferment does not make surprisingly good beer. My experiment came out simply nasty. The wort fermented down to 1006, but simply a nasty mash up of bacterial and other critters that are not tasty. Maybe one could bottle and let sit for a year but I am not so...

What I did for beer today

Okey dokey, today I tapped the spunded Tony's Pre-1980 Boddington's Clone. It's pretty dang tasty. Maybe not my favorite Bitter but definitely in regular rotation. And I have to say, I like the widget can Boddington's and have drunk a fair amount of that ever since HOng Kong circa 1994. Tony's...
