    Swedish n00b

Evening. I've lurked here for a while and already have some posts, so I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm a 21 year old student living in Gothenburg, Sweden. Hobbies other than beer include music (mostly death metal, but I enjoy most genres), politics and anything computer related. I...

I am more pissed than ever at Pennsylvania liquor laws

I know how you feel, it's even worse in Sweden.

Three cheers for SWMBOs who like beer!

My girlfriend is into beer, not as much as myself though. She helped me a lot with my current (and first) brew. We'll probably make a kriek or something similar together soon since that's her favorite style (of course).

    Fruit Beer Requiem Raspberry

eschatz, when you say it's almost like a lambic, does that mean it's as sour as a "real" lambic? Try Hoegaarden Rosé. Not very good though, it had some off flavors that I didn't like. Hope they're not present in this beer though, might brew it some time.

Low ABV beer instead of water?

Interesting, do you know what style it was?

Low ABV beer instead of water?

I read on the wiki that it's possible to use pretty much any liquid instead of water when brewing, so I'm just wondering, would it be possible to use a low ABV beer? The beer in question is a Vienna Lager with an ABV of 2.1%. Doesn't really taste much, here's a review I found. The reason I'm...

    Does my LHBS suck?

No, I just said something like "I've heard some bad things about kit yeast, got anything else?", which was pretty much true. I had been looking around on some Swedish homebrewing sites and pretty much everyone says that if you want to do a kit brew, replace the yeast with another one. Also, I...

    What's your favorite Micro brewery.

We don't get a lot of US microbrews to Sweden, mostly because of our alcohol monopoly. I do like the ones I've found from the bigger craft breweries like Stone, Oskar Blues and Flying Dog. As for Swedish microbreweries, Dugges, Oceanbryggeriet and Närke are great.

    Does my LHBS suck?

My LHBS really sucks. They do have a pretty good selection of equipment for a rookie like me (the only thing I miss is hop bags) but when it comes to ingredients, they really suck. They only have kits, DME and some wierd little tea bags with hops (nothing interesting, just stuff like Saaz and...

    Kids and Brewing...

I made a couple of batches of cheap apple wine from sugar, apple juice and regular baking yeast when I was 19, but even a five year old could do that. Sure, it tasted like crap, but it got me drunk. By the way, I started my first brew a few days before my 21st birthday. But the drinking age...

    Imperial Stout-Burbon and Wood

That's what I thought. I had an oak aged Yeti from Great Divide a while back and it was a bit too bitter. Right now I'm thinking about either a Stone IRS clone or this recipe. Haven't decided yet but I'm sure both would be fine.

How much $$$ does it cost YOU a batch?

My first and only batch cost me about $70 for five gallons, but I have about 3.5 oz. of hops left. Then again, I'm brewing extract. I also think ingredients are a bit more expensive here in Sweden than in the US.

    Whats everyone drinking tonight?

Might have a small sample of my APA which is in secondary right now to see what five days of dry hopping has done to it so far. Other than that, I'm thinking about having a Nøgne Ø/Dugges Sahti.

    Kids and Brewing...

I don't have kids yet, since I'm only 21. My 14 year old sister helped me crush malt when I brewed my first (and only so far) brew though. I'll probably let her taste it when it's done.

    Imperial Stout-Burbon and Wood

I'll borrow this thread, hope you don't mind. Me and my dad have been thinking about making and IS with whiskey and wood for a while know, but I haven't found a good recipe. I'm thinking about this but 140 IBU seems a bit high. Maybe we should use less Magnum? Another question: my dad...
