Converting old fridge into ferment chamber

I was debating whether to get a dual stage temp controller or just switch out the fridge plug for a heating element (light bulb, reptile heater) when temps drop in early winter and then switch them back in late winter when temps rise. It might be easier to just get the dual stage and not monkey...

Converting old fridge into ferment chamber

Thanks for the reply. Sounds exactly like the fridge I have. Must be pretty common for the cooling to go to the freezer then to the fridge with only one cooling element. I am shooting for the same set up you have, remove all shelves and support the bottom shelf with some bracing. Any...

Converting old fridge into ferment chamber

A buddy of mine just gave me an old Full-size fridge/freezer combo, the kind that the bottom 3/4 is refrigerator and the top 1/4 freezer. I plan on converting the fridge portion into a ferment chamber by simply adding a Johnson Controls Temp Controller and building out the interior of the...

    Hot Break: Extract vs AG...

I only have 12 brews under my belt, but the extract batches I have done have definitely had a much larger hot breaks. With my all grain batches there hasn't been much of a hot break at all compared to extract. IMO, I believe what you are experiencing is totally normal.

Just had a bottle bomb - fluke or worry?

You said you used the bag of priming sugar from the kit. How much beer did you actually end up with and bottle? Did you bottle the full 5 gallons that the bag of priming sugar was intended for? Or did you end up with less than 5 gallons? Also, how did you incorporate your priming sugar...

    Tomato beer

Short's Brewery makes a beer called Bloody Beer which is basically a bloody mary flavored beer. It is seasonal in the fall (harvest time) and I have only had it twice. I actually thought it was a really good beer. They use Roma tomatoes along with different herbs and spices. Not sure why...

    Bells Oberon Clone

I brewed this recipe yesterday afternoon and pitched yeast at 5:00pm, Wyeast 1010. This morning at 8:00am the airlock was bubbling away nicely. Where I ferment, the ambient temp is 63*, but the actual temp of the wort is right now at 71*. Is the pushing the limit on this yeast, or should I be...

    Tomato beer

Just wondering if you ended up brewing this again and if so, how did it turn out the second time around?

    2nd Attempt at brewing Question

Maybe the fact that you strained your wort after you pitched the yeast had something to do with it?
