strangebrew elsinore/ pi based controller buildalongs?

I'm still wading through the very long strangebrew thread, and haven't had a lot of luck with searches, was wondering if anyone has posted a build along thread (or if you can direct me to a post # in the larger thread(s)) for your raspberry pi based brewing controller? I'm interested in more the...

e-Brewery Control Panel Project/Conversion from Propane to Electric

i think we're getting off the rails here lol. this isn't anything i'm trying to do, was proposing an out of the box way to solve a "getting below X amperage" threshold issue. to anyone reading along, augiedoggie knows a lot more about all this than i do, assume i'm wrong and ignore this...

e-Brewery Control Panel Project/Conversion from Propane to Electric

i understand completely. my comment is based on the fact that you can run an element and a pump on alternating cycles (think multiple cycles per second or a second or two each.) this could then enable a "continual" flow of wort, as well as linear heating. you don't lose enough heat to the...

e-Brewery Control Panel Project/Conversion from Propane to Electric

there's got to be a way to cycle the pump and the heater so they arent on during the same duty cycle, but still maintain adequate recirculation... perhaps not the easiest solution, but gotta be possible.

California newport beach to the bruery?

apologies that this is not homebrew related but hoped to get some advice from the locals... I'll be in Newport Beach for a few days in April for work, and would love to visit the Bruery Terreux tap room... I see that it's about 20 miles from my hotel (hyatt regency)... any advice on how to get...

    List of PJ Electrical Diagrams

thanks! unfortunately, i pulled my dryer forward.... and realized i have a 3 prong outlet. laundry room is right next to the electrical panel, so easiest fix might be to just replace the wiring and outlet in the house... but another thing i wasn't planning on doing...

    List of PJ Electrical Diagrams

this is a long thread to wade through... is this diagram the simplest one for a PID controlled BIAB system? also, does one exist with pump control for recirculating? i think it would be relatively straightforward to split off the feed for line 1(before the switch) and ground to complete this...

    Be-all end-all HERMS coil size/length/material poll

    Electric 10bbl

you may want to go to probrewer, not many of us here "homebrew" in 10bbl volumes so any suggestions might have scaling issues.

30A eHerms recirculate boiling wort via herms coil to heat strike water for back2back

true i didn't think about pump cavitation at all, there's still a lot to do with building out my system (propane BIAB corrently) but will need to look into this before risking my chugger. my first thought is some sort of ~ 1/2 gal bubble trap, gravity fed from the BK, where the wort will...

30A eHerms recirculate boiling wort via herms coil to heat strike water for back2back

anyone ever done this? or is it a crazy idea? I'm not able to build a 50 amp system to run two elements at once, but if i build a 30 amp system, wondering if it would be possible to just hook up the boil kettle to the HERMS coil, and use the single boil kettle element to boil the wort, use...

e-Brewery Control Panel Project/Conversion from Propane to Electric

why not? i figure you can just turn the pump on and off to keep the mash temp constant while heating strike water.

why are PID's so much more popular than PLC?

Schlenkera, thank you very much, your answer was very clear, and really helped me understand the differences. i think my dad was assuming i'd automate the pumps, valves, etc as well... which i can see the PLC coming into play. but since at this point i'd just like to dial in a temp with an...

why are PID's so much more popular than PLC?

i'm getting into researching the jump from propane to electric, and during discussions with my dad (engineer) ran into some questions that i couldn't answer. why are the PID based systems seemingly more popular than a PLC? (for the DIY crowd) is it that PID's are somewhat plug and play, while a...
