    Official Broken Hydrometer Count

    327. Broke it last week. Put it back in it's tube only to realize I didn't put the other cap back on. Something out of a 3 Stooges skit.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Alright, so I lied. SWMBO went to bed early and I couldn't help myself. Brewing this right now, and I am about to crack open a Doouble Chocolate Oatmeal Milk Stout home brew. :mug:

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Harvest Pumpkin Ale. SWMBO has asked me to let her brew this batch. Should make for an interesting brew session.

WTB kegging and brewing equipment in Phx, Az.

Hi, New brewer looking to pick up some home brewing items. I am looking for almost anything and everything as I want to start brewing more batches and start kegging as well. I would be willing to travel, but not out of state. Thanks.

    Show us your Kegerator

I know right? $40. He was asking $75 but I talked him down to $40. I kind of feel like I stole it from him. Without being too judgemental I would say he was doing pretty well for himself, so I don't think money was an issue. He just wanted it gone. I am gonna check out kegconnections.com now...

    Show us your Kegerator

This is my awesome CL find. It's an older model Perlick kegerator. Found it on Craigslist, and the price was low enough to peak my interest. The owner didn't know the manufacturers name off the top of his head. (He was at work when we were talking) I made the 30 minute drive to the guys house...

    Smelly Star-San

    Thanks. Appreciate the help.

    Smelly Star-San

So it should be safe for consumption? I only worry because no-one has really weighed in saying this specifically has happened to them. I can't possibly be the first person to throw a metal strainer in Star-San, but then again...I just might be. I just don't like to take risks when it comes to...

    Smelly Star-San

I would only hope that all material in a "food grade" strainer would be safe regardless, but you never know considering where these cheap things get made.

    Smelly Star-San

Kind of what I was thinking. Do you think I need to be concerned with any toxins leaking into the batch as a result?

    Smelly Star-San

I am fairly certain that at the right dilution ratio it doesn't hurt to leave it in there. This will be my 4th batch and the others came out excellent. It just allows me to keep a constant sanitized environment. When I use a tool I can rinse it off and throw it right back in the sanitizer and it...

    Smelly Star-San

I recently brewed a Samuel Adams Clone. I filled my primary bucket with 5 gallons of water and used Star-San for my sanitizer. I typically let everything soak for an hour before I use it, and this time was no different. With about 10 minutes left in my boil I started removing everything I was...

    Rdwhahb!!!

I went with a lot of "quick" recipes from my LHBS. I figured this was the best way to get the impatience out. Thankfully it is working. I have (3) 5 gallon brews bottled right now so I have a few weeks of stock. ;) I just started a Sam Adams Clone and when I got home I completely forgot to check...

    Rdwhahb!!!

As annoying as it may be to hear, over and over, you old timers might be on to something. Just completed a brew session, and drank my first home brew (dunkelweizen) while I was doing it. I have to say, it feels pretty dang good. RDWHAHB is far easier when you actually have some home brew to...

    Repugnant Imperial Stout - thoughts?

Looks dang good to me! Let us know how it turns out. Have you considered soaking a fresh vanilla bean or 2 in vodka instead of extract? With such a good looking recipe you should go for perfection! Maybe even use fat free cocoa in the last 10 mins of the boil? Geeez, now I am getting thirsty...

    Pumpkin Spiced Ale

I think your batch is ruined. Go ahead and send me the batch, in the fermenter and just consider it a total loss. ;) This recipe sounds great, I will be brewing this very soon! Unless of course...you send me yours...:) Not sure if 2 vials of yeast was necessary or not. That one is beyond me...

    Breakfast Stout

If you're looking for a vanilla flavor you should consider this. You could get a couple fresh vanilla beans, split them and put them in a few ounces of vodka. Let it soak while the stout is in the primary fermenter and add it to the secondary when you transfer. This is something I have seen...

    bottling bucket

I agree with Golddiggie. Make sure that if you do decide to use it, remove the spigot before and clean it thoroughly and sanitize accordingly. Once you are finished with the batch do the same. The spigot is a great place for bacteria to hide, so be thorough.
