    Spike - Steam Condenser Lid

Has anyone who purchased during the presale received their lid yet? If so, please help us out with some unboxing and testing info!

    small batch Induction burner

That's unfortunate... it probably works out alright with a small pot, but not when you're trying to bring 5-10 gallons of water to a boil, like we are. As for your question about the thermowell, I don't see why it wouldn't work, and that would certainly be the way I'd be planning on using it...

    small batch Induction burner

That would be great! Wintry Mix, sorry to keep asking things of you, but is there any chance you could test this and confirm for us? Thanks!

    small batch Induction burner

Just took another look at the manual for the Max Burton #6600 and saw this interesting part: I'm a bit confused about what they mean by "zone" here. Are they actually discrete physical heating zones, or is this just being used as a synonym for "step", as in steps of the cooking program? If it...

    small batch Induction burner

It's definitely related to the chassis strength. There are a number of examples on here of people who have built rigs like you're suggesting, including at least one that also uses springs. I built a wooden platform for my kettle, and have placed the induction burner on a screw jack that I use to...

Sure, or if the removal of the grain + absorbed water is enough to get under the 60lb limit, then you can just top up after mashing. There are definitely ways to make it work, but it would be great if we could just do a full volume mash in and forget about it.

    small batch Induction burner

Thanks for the details. The temperature ramp rate and burner diameter sound very promising. I'm excited to hear how the probe works out, when you have a chance. Can you speak about the build quality? I'm a little concerned about the 60 pound limit, as I fear I'd be bumping up against that most...

Any updates on this? I'd love to hear how it's worked out!

10 gal kettle owner here, waiting for the basket. Can't wait to see the pricing!

    small batch Induction burner

Wow! Nice find. I've been looking for an induction burner with an actually-usable temperature probe for a long time. The only thing that seems to be lacking here is that the temperature set point is still determined by large discrete gaps. I don't know why it is so difficult for these companies...

    Spike - Steam Condenser Lid

Thanks for the detailed and thoughtful response. Of course, this totally makes sense. You have to make a product that you know will work for the majority of your customers regardless of factors outside of your control, such as source water pressure, and you certainly can't conduct laboratory...

    Spike - Steam Condenser Lid

Nice! Seems like a workable solution. I'd love to hear what @SpikeBrewing thinks about this. Maybe they could offer a package that omits the pump and substitutes in a higher pressure nozzle? We would be extremely grateful!

    Spike - Steam Condenser Lid

This seems like a key point. If the mister is replaceable, then the unit should be easily reconfigurable for a household water hookup. Looking at the picture that @SpikeBrewing posted earlier (reproduced below), it looks like part G, the mister, is just an NPT part that screws into the...

    Spike - Steam Condenser Lid

This is a good question, and one I'd like to know the answer to also. It seems that other offerings (Steam Slayer, among others) have been able to provide satisfactory results with a much lower flow rate, and I wonder what the disconnect is here. Is it Spike's stance that these other products do...

    Spike - Steam Condenser Lid

Okay, thanks for answering that. How does your sprayer respond to different flow rates? I can restrict the flow upstream with a ball valve, which should help with the increased water usage, as long as it doesn't negatively affect the spray. Do you know what the minimum pressure/flow rate...

    Spike - Steam Condenser Lid

Hi @SpikeBrewing, Is the pump really strictly necessary? I have a water hookup attached to my brew cart, and was originally intending on using that to feed a Steam Slayer. As a huge Spike fan (and kettle owner), I would rather use this steam condenser lid, but the idea of the pump (and having...

Keg diptube-thermowell conversion: seeking tips on soldering stainless steel

So I cleaned it up as best I could. Wire wheel, Barkeepers Friend. Tried to solder it again with extra flux this time. Nope... by the time the metal gets hot enough for the solder to melt, the flux is all burnt off, and the surface won't wet. I tried resting some flux atop the joint and just...

Keg diptube-thermowell conversion: seeking tips on soldering stainless steel

By crazy coincidence, I was actually working on this at the exact time you posted your advice, and so I didn't see it until afterwards. Still, I ended up doing basically what you said. I started out by filing down the barb significantly so that the head would fit into the keg post, then...
