How long is your brew day?

All grain. I've never tried extract. I just dove straight into all grain. A Lot to learn.

How long is your brew day?

I brewed yesterday. I started at 530 am and didn't finish my cleanup until about 130 pm. It's only my second batch ever so I expect I will get better.

Noob - how do I figured out how much grain

I wish I had all of that! I got into this the most reckless way possible. I read up on what I needed, watched YouTube videos on how to do it. I bought a starter kit, bought Grolsch flip top bottles, made a mash tun and wort chiller and got to it. I googled "basic pale ale recipe" or something...

Noob - how do I figured out how much grain

Ok. Thank you kimosabi. This brewing thing is much more scienctific than I thought. When I watched brewing videos on YouTube it all seemed so simple. I think I want to know the How and Why of everything so I'm gonna get as scientific any brain will allow.

Noob - how do I figured out how much grain

So cool. I didn't get that, though I should have, it all depended on how much beer I wanted to make. I was thinking 69% of what? Haha I've been thinking about getting beersmith. Maybe I'll try the free calcs first. I really should stick to recipes that tell exact amounts but I'm impatient...

Noob - how do I figured out how much grain

Hey, I'm a noob thinking about brewing my second batch of all grain. I've never done any brewing before first batch, except for Mr Beer in college (which tasted a lot like vinegar but we drank it anyway). I found a recipe I want to try but the grain bill is just in percentages. How do I...

What came in the mail for you today?

I'm still a noob so nothing too exciting for anyone else but I got my bazooka screen for my new (and only) mash tun today! I picked it up off eBay for $16, hopefully the cheapness doesnt bite me in the arse! (are we allowed to swear on here? I have a potty mouth). It says it's stainless but from...

    New guy with etiquette questions

Like I said, learning a lot. This is what I did except for the gentle stir. I read about it afterwards. Wish I'd read about it before. Oh well, for a first beer it doesn't taste bad and once it's more carbed and sits in the bottle a little longer it should be really good. Thanks eh

    New guy with etiquette questions

Lol, I'd like to know that too! I'm a noob and have made a couple noob mistakes so it's taking a while to get this beer in my belly! I added a week to the fermentation for some reason then stored the bottled beer in my basement. The basement is a little too cold I think so 3 weeks hasn't been...

True lol, maybe next time I'll just say "I bought last time! You're buying this time!" and that will be that

    New guy with etiquette questions

Yeah I had the same grand ideas but one batch in I'm noticing that I do waaaaaay more reading on the topic and my buddy has hardly done any. I'm clearly more into it with buying the equipment and learning technique. Maybe this is a lone wolf type hobby?

    New guy with etiquette questions

Holy responses. I think I'm gonna like this place! After typing out the situation and reading all of the responses so far, this is what I'm gonna do. I'm going to eat the costs on the first batch. The ingredients cost $43 total, minus the cost of water, divided by 2= maybe $15. Chump change...

    New guy with etiquette questions

Ok here's the situation. A buddy of mine and myself were talking about brewing beer forever. We made plans to split on equipment to make it cheaper. Over time I ended up buying or making everything required to brew except the mash tun. He made the mash tun (which broke during our first brew day...
