American IPA Mr. Cheeks - Citra/Simcoe IPA

Yeah, very good. I brewed this and gave away a lot to people in my life and everyone, including myself, loved it. I will be brewing this again very very soon. If you want a not-so-bitter but very flavourful ipa I would highly recommend it. It was very tasty. I've brewed 6beers so far (all grains...

Recommend me an IPA or APA recipe

I just made Mr Cheeks IPA off of this site. Very tasty IMHO. Not very bitter, more citrusy but that's what I was looking for. I'll prob brew it again eventually. So good.

Want your opinion about this please read!

Hey I'm in London too! Lots of homeboozers here I guess. The place on Hamilton is super expensive and not great service. south end I find better. Adrian at the counter is a home brewer and has some good advice if he has the time. If I need something quick I go Brewhaven. Everything else I order...

    Disaster Brew!!

Really? Wow never heard of that before. No dish soap on anything or just chiller? Something to do with the copper?

    no bubbles in the bottle...

I had the same problem with my first batch and only about 3 of the 40 carbed up. Too bad. It sounds like you need to wait A LOT longer. Also, what I found out afterwards is that when you rack the wort on top of the dextrose solution give a very gentle stir, without creating any bubbles or...

    Post your infection

Ok. Thx. I do usually leave it closed. My first two batches I didn't look until about 10 days and it was to take a gravity reading so I will follow that advice. Because of the trouble I had during the boil, etc I wanted to peek. I used Fermentis us-05. This is Mr Cheeks IPA from the recipe...

    Post your infection

Ok, so 6 days in fermenter, I peaked in and see this: Is it dead? This is the beer from the "disaster brew" post started a few days ago. Is this Krausen falling or an infection? If you look close enough it looks like lots of tiny bubbles but there could also be that "oily" look on top. Thx eh!

    Disaster Brew!!

I can't imagine that it would after all the heat. Wouldn't they just be allergic to the sting? Anyway, I had a peak through the airlock hole and krausen is up and everything is going nicely. Airlock is bubbling like crazy. This is the first beer I've brewed with Citra. Wow that stuff is so...

    Disaster Brew!!

Awesome. Ok so I should be fine. The "disaster" was that two things went wrong instead of the usual 1 lol. I thought maybe the IC going in late was enough to doom my beer. Can't wait to try this beer. I've never had one with Citra. It doesn't seem that common of a hop in recipes I've seen.

    Disaster Brew!!

So here's the sitch. Everything was going along great for my 3rd batch of beer ever. I sanitized like crazy, I hit all my temps and even got within 4 points of my target OG. The problem started when I forgot to put the damn immersion chiller into the boil 15 min before like I always have. For...

    Wort Filtering Idea

Last batch I brewed I used a muslin bag for the hops. That contained a lot of the trub. After the boil and cool I picked the kettle up and poured from it into my fermenting bucket, through a run-of-the-mill "splatter gaurd" from the kitchen. It's one of those large circular screens that people...

    Beersmith recipe question

Ok. I don't even have beersmith yet, lol. I just googled a type of beer and found this recipe. I didn't know anything about it. I am def going to get it and begin measuring EVERYTHING. I've brewed twice now and am starting to get used to the process so I think I can start adding in steps like...

    Beersmith recipe question

I've only made two batches and haven't really gotten to the point of measuring boil off rates, etc. I'm still very basic. This is just a recipe I found online

    Beersmith recipe question

This is not my recipe. I was just searching around for honey brown recipes and found this one. It seemed like a huge boil size so I thought that I had better do some learning.

    Beersmith recipe question

Ok, noob question. The "boil size" in the recipe is 8.48 gallons. I assume this means that I have to either get that much wort or top up the kettle to that amount with water to make that much wort? If that is correct why is that? Why is it so much more than other recipes? Will my kettle boil...

How long is your brew day?

Sorry this took so long. On top of work I've got a newborn and two year old. Not much time for anything. All grain. Have never tried extract.
