Are you an extract or all-grain brewer?

Anymore of you extract guys/gals out there?

Are you an extract or all-grain brewer?

You still need to have a preference, even if you use a couple different methods. For example, I do partial mashes when making a big beer because I don’t have a big enough mash tun. However, given unconstrained equipment, I’d fly sparge.

Are you an extract or all-grain brewer?

I posted this poll in the all-grain section and it's clear that it's not getting an appropriate representation of the extract brewing population. Therefore, I’m making a second post here that my get better visibility regarding extract brewers. If you posted in the other post PLEASE AVOID...

Are you an all-grain brewer; what's your preferred mashing method?

Thanks guys and gals. Are there really no extract brewers? Perhaps it’s the section visibility.

Are you an all-grain brewer; what's your preferred mashing method?

Hello all, feed my inquisitiveness . . . how many all-grainers do we have and how do you do things?

My HLT / Heat Exchanger HERMS Build

That could be the case, my Steelhead is brand new. I think once money allows, since I want a second pump anyways, I'll go for the Nano March pump.

    High Flow Pumps

I'm interested in hearing more about pump options, hence the resurrection. With current setup I've got a 50' 3/8" copper coil as a HERMS heat exchanger. My 1/20 HP Steelhead does alright, but leaves a little to be desired. I certainly wouldn't spend the money to bump up to the pumps listed...

My HLT / Heat Exchanger HERMS Build

It does flow, but slower than I'd have thought or liked. I have the Northern Steelhead which is rated at the same 1/20 HP of the Chugger. In time I'll be adding a second pump and wonder if there's any pump that produces higher pressure.

    I unwound a 5 foot strain. http://www.menards.com/main/electrical/rough-electrical/electrical-wire/4-gauge-5-stranded-copper-wire/p-1863065-c-6441.htm

Fermentation Chamber Built...now how to manage temperature (STC-1000)

I think it would just come down to personal preference, moisture may or may not be an issue, just food for thought. You could mount the box to the frig, either inside or out, or could just leave the box loose outside. Think my preference would be to drill two holes through the new door to...

Fermentation Chamber Built...now how to manage temperature (STC-1000)

I'm going to guess the temp wouldn't be an issue. What I'm unsure of is moisture, it's a somewhat sealed system where you'll get prolonged exposure to moisture. I think if you want it inside, maybe hardwiring and just dealing with sealing the wire into your project box would give you greater...

Fermentation Chamber Built...now how to manage temperature (STC-1000)

Been just starting to think about doing one of these myself. I'm going to model against this YouTube tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7I-iwFLykxs My plan is to just toss in one of the carboy blanks, loose / not rapped around the carboy for heat and use the normal system of course for...

Your workbench to brew stand conversion

So I'm looking at Craig's List for workbenches, with the intention to conversion to a brew stand. It really seems to be the way to go. It's often cheaper buying a used bench steel bench than buying the material. Then there's the time savings starting with a structure and repurposing. So...

Water Profile Corrections & Fly Sparging

So I've been using the online EZ Water Calculator tool http://www.ezwatercalculator.com/. The tool uses inputs such as: distilled water volume, additional water source (with water profile entry), grain bill and, salt and other additions. I logically get this working with full volumes such as...

My HLT / Heat Exchanger HERMS Build

Thanks guys! Forgot to mention in my original post (I've added), but I pressed in the bulkheads, which made a nice tight fit and shelve for the solder to seat in.

20 or 50' copper for DIY wort chiller?

You're making two assumptions that may change the advise. First, you're assuming that after 20' the water has reach equilibrium with the fluid you're trying to cool. Unless you've got rather warm chill water, I can't see your cooling water being at equilibrium with dropping surrounding wort...

20 or 50' copper for DIY wort chiller?

If it helps with the decision, Home Depot sells 50' by 3/8" for $42.39. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-3-8-in-x-50-ft-Copper-Soft-Refrigeration-Coil-Pipe-D-06050PS/202287109?N=buyt%2FNtk-All%2FNtt-copper%252Btubing That's the way I'd go, going with the 50', it's what I've done.

My HLT / Heat Exchanger HERMS Build

So I'm in the middle of upgrading from mostly extract brewing to this point, one BIAB, to an AG HERMS setup. I really enjoy building as much as brewing, plus building works because my system desires exceed my piggy bank. Anyways, I'm halfway done on the mash tun build and I just finished the...
