    Dishwasher sanitization????

I read on "How to Brew" by John Palmer that you can sanitize bottles by placing them in the dishwasher and allowing the thing to cycle through the heat/drying process. Has anyone done this? This seems like a very easy method to sanitize and the bottles should be ready to use right away. What do...

The two-three story high brew kit!

I forgot to mention. They said that they strained it through bread before they drank it.

The two-three story high brew kit!

I was at my local brew shop this morning and a couple of "old timers" were sampling wine. They asked what I was brewing and we got into a conversation. Both were old farmers (maybe in their 70s or 80s) and they were telling those in the shop about brewing corn mash. In the fall they would get...

After all the worry -it tastes like "beer"

After asking the standard "Why was the fermentation over so quickly?" question, I got some good advice which mostly boiled down to "RELAX" and "BE PATIENT". Well I took everyone's advice and waited 7 days, took a reading and the FG was right on. The sample actually tasted pretty darn good...

    Favorite Beer?

I fell in love with hops. Once I tasted some commercial brews: Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Dogfish Head 60 Min IPA, I crossed over to the "dark side". It is hard for me to enjoy a non-hopped up beer now. I do, however, like Blue Moon as a great summer beer. Drinking the IPAs and Pale Ales got...

    Secondary Ferm. Logic?????????

What is the difference between allowing your beer to stay in the Primary for 2-3 weeks before bottling and changing over to a Secondary after 1 week and then waiting 2 weeks to bottle? Isn't the beer clearing and settling in both cases? As a first time home brewer I am considering getting a 6.5...

    Ingredient Beer Kits

For my first few brews I want to use the packaged kits. I am in the process of using the Pale Ale Kit from "True Brew". Can anyone recommend other kits that seem to be superior. True Brew kits are available in my community, but I can order others online if necessary. Thanks

    1st time fermentation: question/worry

Thanks for the reply. I am not sure of the type of yeast used. The kit was a True Brew Pale Ale kit. The packet of yeast was just labeled Ale Yeast in the instructions. I tossed the packet away after using. I'll follow your instructions. What is the easiest way to take the samples...

    1st time fermentation: question/worry

I brewed my first batch of Pale Ale from a kit. Boil - Plastic Fermentation Bucket -Dry Yeast sprinkled on top and very lightly stirred. I specifically followed all directions present with the kit. I did forget to take an Hydrometer reading however. I finished adding the yeast at 2:00PM...
