    DME questions

Thanks all, that's sort of what I figured but just wanted to know for sure. I really saw it when I poured some wort into a tube to got a hydrometer reading off if and noticed different readings between the unsettled wort and with the trub on the bottom and not in the wort.

    DME questions

I have brewed a few batches of a Bass Ale clone using 6# of light DME and they have all came out great. The question I have is that when it sits in the fermenter for a bit there is some sediment which is sort of cloudy/ mucky. Actually at the bottom of the fermenter there is quite a bit of...

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Dark Chocolate Stout

I brewed a 2.5 gallon batch of this and it came out very tasty. Now I have a bottle of chocolate extract and was going to try again but was wondering if there a recipe using less or no lactose (for those who lactose intolerant). Or something else I could use my chocolate with.

    priming sugars?

that is sort of what I figured but I just wanted to ask someone with a bit more experience than me. Thanks!

    priming sugars?

But is there a difference in flavor, head, carbonation or, anything else? i.e. I might use extra-light instead of light DME? Will that make a difference on anything relative to 5 gallons. Ever since I messed up a batch I try to stick pretty much to the recipes and this recipe calls for light...

    priming sugars?

I just made a La Trappe Quadruple 5 gallon recipe and it called for extra-light DME (which I have a little extra of). Now for priming the recipe calls for 1.25 cups of light DME. Will it really matter if I use extra-light, light or even priming sugar? I always thought the priming sugar is not...

    Auto-siphon question?

My clip is not strong enough either. It sort of slips and you have to hold it so , yes I baby sit it and move it down every few inches or so. I was just wondering if there was a better way. I guess not. BTW, my sediment is not so solid either and will stir up the bottom. When using a clear...

    Auto-siphon question?

For those who are using solid colored (i.e mine is white) plastic fermenters, when you siphon how do you know if you are hitting sediment without sucking it up through the hose first? When I use my glass carboy I can clearly see where to end of the auto-siphon is but with the white bucket I am...

I think I made near beer

I don't exactly remember what made me use so much cara but I think this is just what I had crushed and left over and just wanted to get rid of it before it went bad. Should have just dumped it which i am doing to the beer now. It would have taken less time. Oh well.

I think I made near beer

Oh yes, it tastes very good and is very clear. Although I made it all in 1 liter bottles and dumped all but two last night. I guess you gotta admit when it went wrong and since space and bottles are at a premium I figured I would make way for my next batch. Back to following recipes and adding...

I think I made near beer

Well this was my first attempt a making my own recipe, I guess it didn't work out so well. Needless to say I went back to following recipes and made an all grain dark chocolate stout which came out good and just bottled an extract Bass Ale clone today which also looks good. The Bass Ale i...

    Beerbrite caps?

Not the same but thanks, mine are all plastic and just a cone shape. They and not like that at all. BTW, I saw this video last week and it looks like too much work.

    Beerbrite caps?

I was cleaning out my dads garage yesterday and came across some beer bottling supplies which i took. In there was a few packages of this product called BEERBRITE CAPS. They are plastic cones which you put on the bottle and turn upside down sort of like champagne. Then you pinch it off and...

    Bass Ale clone

I just started this two days ago and it is fermenting like crazy. Will let you know who it comes out. I think the next time I will try the AG BIAB method for this recipe which is 11# of 2 row British malt with the 1# of 40L and steep for 90 minutes then use 27% less IBU and everything else the...

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Dark Chocolate Stout

Well I made a 2.5 gal batch and as stated above but roasted barley was already crushed and mixed with the rest of the grains so I used twice as much roasted barley which was .5# instead of .25#. I also made a mistake and put in all the cocoa so I used 8 oz instead of 4 oz. Everything else was...

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Dark Chocolate Stout

I am going to make a 1/2 batch of this recipe and got my grains yesterday. I had them crush the grains and put them all in one bag. But now I noticed that I shorted the pale by .25# and the roasted barley is .25# too much. Is this going to really matter? I have lots old crushed 40L in my...

    funny bubbles

This is my first brew in about 20 years and maybe I am just missing something but let me ask anyway. I made a 5 gallon batch of Summer Weiss from a kit with extracts, bitters and finishing hops using Heferweiss liquid yeast. Boiled for an hour and it took like 6 hours to get below 90 degrees F...
