Help a First timer using Brooklyn brew kit

Will do! It is Porter too, not stout. I assume the third pot is for the sparge water?

Help a First timer using Brooklyn brew kit

I'm doing a batch of Peanut Butter Stout from BB. I'll keep this in mind. I'm doing the strainer but I have a nice fine mesh one. BIAB seems easier but I want to do it full grain style per recipe at least once.

When and How Often to Measure FG

Unless you are recording the results for some reason (maybe as you experiment with recipes or something), you don't have to take SG readings at all. Some brewers record all that for reference but it's not mandatory. If you're just brewing recipe kits and you've got good fermentation, the beer...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Cool thread. I'd love to say I've read it all but its 578 pages... Anyway, I've got everything to do my first 1 gallon batches. Doing one cider, very simple stuff. Just apple juice and Nottingham yeast. Also doing a full grain batch of peanut butter porter from Brooklyn Brew Shop...

    Bottling/ carbing help

My wife can't tolerate artificial sweeteners and I don't like them. I'm planning on sweetening in the glass with honey or simple syrup. Might give back sweetening followed by pasteurization a try some day but for now, I think adding some kind of sugar when drinking is the easiest way to go.

Sour taste on my last bottled beers.

Could be the extra malt and hops. I'm totally new at this but my first batch tasted sour when I sampled it after taking a SG reading. The first bottle we opened at two weeks to check carbonation had that same taste but much less. After three weeks, it was gone. If it's still there after...

    What's next on your Brewgenda?

I love those days :D Just got a couple of two gallon buckets, two 1 gallon carboys and some associated hardware to do some small batches. I'm going to start with a batch of cider and a batch of peanut butter porter from Brooklyn Brew Shop I got for my son for Christmas. But not until next...

Any worse beer destination than Mexico?

Can't speak to the rest of the Caribbean, but Jamaica isn't bad. Guinness has a brewery there and brews their Foreign Extra Stout. I've had some other good beers like Dragon Stout. The problem is if you stay on the resorts. All I've ever seen is Red Stripe. It's okay I guess...if you like...

Priming sugar amounts for 1 gallon

Those calculators explain why my beer is too carbonated. I brewed a brown ale and it's carbonated like soda. I was expecting something a little less fizzy. Instructions called for the entire 5 oz bag of corn sugar but the calculators say it should be about 3.5 oz. Its not ruined or anything...

    Greetings from Nevada

Thanks for the welcome. My plans for brewing in an RV or an apartment are to go small batch. I've invested in (or rather my wife did on my behalf for Christmas:D) a couple of two gallon buckets for primary and a couple of glass jugs for secondaries. I know that only makes about nine 12 oz...

    Greetings from Nevada

I'm a long time lover of beer, especially craft brews. My youngest son is interested in brewing so I decided to finally break down and begin brewing at home. We've brewed one batch, Hex Nut Brown extract, and other than not having much head, it turned out great. But I quickly developed an...
