    Noob SNPA Clone help

Indeed. I missed that part of the instructions. You might not get complete conversion in that amount of time, but you'll get something.

Off flavor in the bottle and consistent carbonation issues

Is there any rinse-aid in the dishwasher when you sanitize? I know that can cause problems.

    Noob SNPA Clone help

The 2-row won't add anything to the beer unless you actually mash it to convert the starches. So, since it isn't really adding anything to begin with, taking it out altogether won't affect your final product in any noticeable way.

Best Place to Buy Copper Pipe?

That's the best I've seen so far. Thanks for the link.

Can you go from brew to drinkable for a hefeweizen in 18 days?

Unless the OP made a typo, I would assume his son won't care if he has any beer on his birthday, as he will be too young to remember it. ;) If, on the other hand, he meant to type twenty-first birthday, then we might have a different answer. I'm assuming, however, this is a beer for dad to...

    Huge F-UP please help!

Nevermind...I didn't see that this thread had 3 pages before I posted, thinking it would end up on the first page...

Best Place to Buy Copper Pipe?

Bendable tubing, I suppose. Most of the stuff I have been looking at has been labeled for use as "refrigeration" tubing.

Best Place to Buy Copper Pipe?

I'm looking to build my own wort chiller. I was going to go with 50' of 1/2" pipe (I'm not making bigger than 5-gallon batches right now, but I want to make sure I'm prepared for future expansion...) and, looking around online, it's almost cheaper to just buy one already made. Any...

How to make a yeast starter - Pictorial

Another starter question: Let's say I wanted to do a big ol' 1-gallon starter for something like a 1.090 beer, but I didn't have a big enough vessel to do the starter. Then let's say I let a 1/2-gallon starter run it's course, decanted the spent wort and added a 1/2-gallon of fresh wort to the...

Moving to the Columbus, GA area in September...

I'm not moving there until September. I was just trying to get a feel of the craft beer scene down there. It's still several months before I leave, but I was bored at work and trying to learn a few things about where I'm going to be spending the next 3 or so years.

Moving to the Columbus, GA area in September...

...and I need to know where to get a drink! I recently accepted a job with the US Army Band and, after all my training is done, I'll be stationed at Ft. Benning. I did some googlin' and found the Cannon Brewpub, which seems, at first glance, to be a cool place which I'll definitely try out...

Newbie with yet another dumb question...

Then don't use it. The Scottish recipe I used was from good ol' Jamil (it's in his book as well as from his show on The Brewing Network) and he says that there should be no smoke flavor in a Scottish ale. Most people misinterpret the BJCP description and think it should have a smoked flavor...

    Free Buckets

I would be wary of using a used plastic bucket that had more than likely not been handled properly. It is very easy to put microscopic scratches in the plastic in which bacteria can hide, making those hard to effectively sanitize. Not saying you shouldn't try it, but I make sure to be extra...

    what would happen?

Short answer: probably. The lager yeast should ferment in the 50s. At that high of a temp, the ale yeast would be fine. The lager yeast will produce some less-than-desirable flavors that will probably ruin anything that the ale yeast did to produce good beer. As an experiment, you could try...

1.080 imperial ipa - 2 smack packs and a dry yeast?

Pitching one liquid yeast pack into a 1.080 beer is a fairly significant under-pitch. It will be a different beer than if you make a starter or use more than one pack to get the appropriate amount of yeast. I'm not saying it won't be drinkable, but it will result in some different flavors by...

    Cleaning Bottles

I make sure I rinse them out really well whenever I drink one. If I'm using commercial bottles with labels, I'll soak them in water/ammonia (usually overnight) and the next day the labels fall right off. I'll give them another good rinse in hot water, then put them in the dishwasher. I'll run...

4.5 oz of priming sugar enough for a belgian quad/strong dark ale?

If you go much higher than 3.5 volumes, you should think about stronger bottles. I believe most regular beer bottles will be potential bombs at carbonation levels that high.

my motivation/inspiration for brewing, great pics inside

I'm sure they were. If he cares enough to put that room together, I have no doubt he takes great care to make sure his beer turns out as good as it can.

The only thing you didn't tell us was whether or not your uncle's beer was any good. Haha.

    Short neck bottles

I would just go buy a bunch of of SN Celebration Ale. 'Tis the Season, you know! ;)
