First brew day ever... *link* to story and pics

9.3 lbs LME plus around 1/2lb of 'specialty grain' -- whatever midwest included in their octane IPA kit. According to your calculations that's around 1.068 just from the LME, around 1.070 if I assume 60ish% soluble sugar by weight from the grain.

First brew day ever... *link* to story and pics

Nothing was particularly wrong with the sack, it was just the flimsiest thing I've ever seen, and barely fit the specialty grains it was supposed to. A little foresight and we should have realized that that siphon starter is meant to be used with an immersion chiller, but I rather enjoy ragging...

    First batch...

Ok so we want to start brewing beer. The thing is, we don't know what we're doing. We were thinking extract brewing (is this just diluting the extract and then adding yeast/fermenting???) or some kind of brewing that involves boiling/cooking but not any kind of malting/kiln/germinating/that...

Should I bother trying to bottle it?

Can someone explain to me what a blow off cap is? Is it the same as a blowoff tube? thanks.

    Turkey Fryer?

Yeah even white vinegar is around pH 3, but I'm still not worried about aluminum, thanks to you + everyone else's reassurance. Also just so y'all know I'm going to get into homebrewing and I'm checking out all the things I'll need to get started. I want to use a turkey fryer as a boiler...
