    Gloopy stuff while steeping crystals

Yeah, I'd certainly clean it by hand first, but that's one hell of a fast way to sanitize the thing. :)

    Gloopy stuff while steeping crystals

The numbers vary depending on conditions and whatnot, but generally speaking, 30 seconds in 171°F water will sanitize something. At 212°F, it's pretty much immediate sanitation, bacteria dies a horrible, violent death. ;) This is also why people toss in their wort chiller during the last minute...

    Friends paying for beer?!

Maybe I'm just used to partying with folks who have a particular demeanor towards the subject, but I'm surprised every single time I gently and subtly ask for donations. Normally, I just put out a large glass mug in a prominent location of the house (kitchen, usually, since everyone tends to...

    Eliminating GOOGLE as search function

Yeah, I don't think it serves any useful purpose. I probably shouldn't even have tried injecting any feedback, you'd think I would know better. Always the optimist. :P

    Coopers Question?

This is kind of what I'm doing with my first ever batch of beer (the Brewer's Best "Scottish Ale" kit, can't wait to bottle it, the taste in the fermenter is nice enough already). I mostly used the instructions as guidelines for the brewing process itself, but from there I've been taking the...

    Building bar and kegerator.

Indeed. If you dig deeper into their keg kits, you can find Single Keg and Dual Keg kits for cheap and gets you everything you need to start kegging and dispensing. Be sure to look at their "fridge kits" too if you want to convert a mini-fridge into a Kegerator. Anyways, hope that helps. :)

    Building bar and kegerator.

The stickies up at the top of this forum have a whole slew of links on the second question. Head down to the "Kegerator Tutorials/Blogs/Journals" section for a list of links. Might want to poke through everything else in there too. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f35/sticky-kegging-faqs-43347/ As...

    Eliminating GOOGLE as search function

heh. I've seen this too, and it's all much ado about nothing, so to say. *puts on his Developer hat* Likely what happened is somebody's little pet programming project, a Proof of Concept chunk of code that just grabs raw wireless packets, got checked into the source code repository and got...

    Greetings from Elgin, IL!

hah, thanks folks. More of a turnout than I expected, y'all rock. :) Good news is, so far I haven't completely hosed my first batch, the sample I took this morning from the primary had a good taste to it. So yeah, it's all downhill (to the floor) from here. Now the fun part is coming up with the...

    Greetings from Elgin, IL!

I'm from San Diego originally before moving here in '90. My wife's family is mostly from here and my parents are still around here (although Dad wants to flee the Midwest as soon as he can. ;) ) But we ended up buying a house on the west tip o' Elgin, and thus here we are.

    New in Chicago

Hey man, I'm new as well, although I'm up on the edge of Elgin, which might as well be halfway to Rockford on the left. ;)

    Greetings from Elgin, IL!

Howdy. :) I'm new to the forums (clearly, as you can tell by my post count) but I've been lightly lurking for a week or two. My mother and wife finally decided to humor me and help me get set up for home brewing for my birthday. (Although, Mom stipulated that she expects me to make her mead at...
