First 5 gallon batch using Digiboil

We drank some of this batch over the last couple days and it tastes great. My husband really likes it even though we're more acustomed to drinking helles. So the mistakes I made apparently didn't have any kind of impact on the flavor. No hints of cardboard or buttered popcorn. The carbonation is...

First 5 gallon batch using Digiboil

Well today I kegged this batch into two 2.5 gallon cornys and all looks and smells good. The FG is 1.012 as expected. Gonna give it a few days to carb and will be tasting it this weekend. I really think this was a good beer to start out with for a noob as it is probably more forgiving than lots...

    Closed transfer to smaller keg

The risk is headspace on the first keg. If it is filled all the way up to the gas dip tube, you're going to have trouble carbonating that keg. This is another good point. I have heard that instead of force carbing through the liquid line some have force carbed through the gas line short tube...

Kegging ten gallons the easy way

This looks great! So I can just connect my co2 tank to the stopper to my fermenter then cascade through to the second keg having the gas in connected to a tube going into some Starsan. Sounds very practical. I'm thinking 20 to 25 psi for my application would be too high and could possibly pop...

    Closed transfer to smaller keg

Thanks! I figured there was a way to do it this way! DMF

    Closed transfer to smaller keg

With this method, does the first keg in line get overfilled? How do the kegs even out? This seems pretty simple. DMF

    Closed transfer to smaller keg

Kind of what I had in mind. I'm a little puzzled on how the spunding valve works. DMF

    Closed transfer to smaller keg

Lots of good advice here! :) I think this time around I will try weighing and just trying to get both right around the same weight. Should be easy enough to do that closed. I'm in the process of building a keezer and do have a few 5 gallon corny kegs to be using in the future. My very first...

    Closed transfer to smaller keg

This also sounds like a good option as well. Could I just overflow into the 2nd keg by running the gas into the liquid out on the 2nd keg? And then run the line going into the stopper on the fermenter from a co2 tank running at about 1 to 2 psi? Would this work? DMF

    Closed transfer to smaller keg

I was thinking I could weigh it when filled with starsan. Would the weight of the beer be any big difference in weight compared to the starsan? 21 lbs seem pretty reasonable. DMF

    Closed transfer to smaller keg

In about a week my 5 gallon batch of amber will be ready to keg. I plan on doing a closed transfer to two 2.6 gallon corny kegs so that they will fit into my mini kegerator conversion. I'm using an Anvil 7.5 bucket fermenter so I will connect gas line from keg into stopper on fermenter and run...

First 5 gallon batch using Digiboil

I'm definetly going to try brewing outside with my burner if I get another one of those error messages on my Digiboil. Just wish there wern't so many bugs outside here! DMF

First 5 gallon batch using Digiboil

I do have a 100,000 BTU propane stove and the kettle that came with the kit that I purchased. The only thing is where I live there are a lot of bugs and mosquitoes. So brewing outdoors is kind of undesirable. I do think it would be a better option and I would if under different circumstances...

First 5 gallon batch using Digiboil

I'm thinking with an electric kettle DME would be your first choice. With LME you would have to just add a little bit at a time and just stir it as much as you can. And hope it doesn't end up going to the bottom and covering something and causing a dry boil (E3) error. I'm lucky the Digiboil...

First 5 gallon batch using Digiboil

Thanks will look into getting one of those. I was using a large stainless spoon and I was stirring but I probably should of just slowed it down a bit. Beginner being overzealous I guess! I may try and go with the DME whenever available. The one gallon kit I did previously had dry and I had an...

First 5 gallon batch using Digiboil

I hear you! Experience is one thing you just can't buy. No matter how much you study up on something it's never the same as just doing it. DMF

First 5 gallon batch using Digiboil

I'm new to Homebrew and just completed my 2nd batch. It is Eskimo Amber extract I got from a kit purchased from MoreBeer. My first batch was a 1 gallon kit called Simply Beer Bavarian Blonde. I did that kit stovetop and it turned out really good. So after watching many YouTube videos, I started...

I actually do have a propane burner but only to use as a backup because we have frequent power outages here. I would have no objection to brewing outside except where I live there are too many bugs and this new species of ankle biting mosquitoes eat you alive!

After a few successful batches of extract I plan on using an all grain attachment that I just ordered for my digiboil that allows a method similar to BIAB and it seems easy enough but time will tell. My stove doesn't really get hot enough to really boil water so the digiboil was what I opted...
