    Temperate controller for freezer

Another vote here for the ITC-308. super easy to set up and use. Currently selling for $35 on Amazon. Sure, you could make one yourself from an STC 1000 and maybe save a few bucks, but for me my time is worth much more than the few dollars I would have (maybe) saved doing it myself.

    Sanitizing Flip Top Bottles

Probably because they are not the same quality as the original Grolsch gaskets. The "real" (for lack of a better word) gaskets are not available everywhere near me, and when they are they run $.25 a piece. The ones I am using are easy for me to get and cost $.06 each. Sure they may only last me...

    Sanitizing Flip Top Bottles

Nope. If I open a bottle and it is flat ( or obviously not as carbed as the rest of the batch) I pull the gasket off right away and replace it when I am cleaning bottles for the next batch. The gaskets I am getting seem to last 5-6 batches, and cost me $6.00/100pcs

    Sanitizing Flip Top Bottles

I also leave them assembled. I StarSan the inside of the bottles with a vinator and dunk the lid/gasket in the StarSan before putting it on my bottle tree to await filling. Never had an infection, but my beer leads a gentle life (bottles are stored, refridgerated and served within a 10 foot...

    Equipment

Realistically speaking, the best all grain setup is the one that works best for you, and only you can answer that. Are you brewing indoors or out? Gas or electric? BIAB or 3 vessel....the list goes on. knowing the kind of system you have in mind would help us answer your question, as well as...

How do you know if a pail is food grade

These white buckets are the food grade ones from HD https://www.homedepot.ca/en/home/p.19l5-gallon---white-food-approved-bucket.1000784675.html. Unlike the orange ones that are placed all over the store, these are pretty much always in the painting section. Set the store location on the linked...

    Sanitizing lots of bottles quickly

If you just need to mix starsan for sanitizing bottles with a vinator, could you not just use bottled drinking water from the grocery store? Something like this should work https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/250634760 and if it doesn't it is not like you will be out too much money.

    Fermonster Discolored

Did the discolouration happen before or after the PBW soak? Either way, I would try rinsing it with a mild acid (I would try vinegar) and see what happens.

Using a cooler bigger than you need for a mash

Because after you drain the tun, the wort in the deadspace contains sugars that are not going into your kettle.

Should you care about brands of LME in recipes?

Getting the same brand would of course make your beer as close to the original recipe as possible, but I wouldn't worry too much about it. If, as you say, this is your first non kit brew, get whatever brand of extract is easiest and instead concern yourself more with the process.

    Roasting grains at home!

Any idea how much diastatic power would be lost from a 15 min at 350f toasting?

    vacuum sealer

I have been using the method shown in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMDfyRjfBbc&feature=youtu.be and it has worked great for me. I use mason jar lids and rings and my only modification is that after I have a good seal, I place a second lid over the first and then screw a ring over...

Super cheap mason jar vacuum sealing for hop storage

Being the immense tightwad that I am, I have been searching for a wallet friendly system for vacuum sealing hops in mason jars so I can take advantage of the cost benefits of buying in bulk. recently I came across this...
