What I did for beer today

I bottled 31 litres of maltese procedure Weizen (FG 1.008, ABV 5.3%), while there was a decent note of ripe bananas present in the room. Carbonated to ~7 g/l with sugar syrup. Now another week waiting and then the bottles will go into the fridge, further conditioning. I'm very looking forward to...

Aaaahh! Then it's Kazungula Bridge over the Sambesi between Botsuana and Sambia, one of the shortest borders between two countries. The island to the right of the bridge is Namibia and to the left of the bridge Zimbabwe.

What I did for beer today

Bottled my "archive sample" from last weeks batch from the amount of leftover I did my fermentation test with: After transferring the wort from the boiler to the fermenter, there's always the trub cone and some wort left in the vat. I filter this through a coffee filter and then use it for a...

What I did for beer today

Today I brewed a Bavarian Weizen Hell using the maltase and high gravity process combined. This time I pulled out my 30l system after 4 small batches out of the Utility Muffin Beer Research Kitchen. 6kg grains (50% Pilsener malt, 50% Wheat malt) 19l mash water mash in: 4,5kg grains + 10l @...

What I did for beer today

Finally I'm back from a week long vacation trip around the northern European countries: Sweden, Åland (look it up!) and Poland, and the subsequent business trip close to the Dutch border participating in a fair - and of course voting for the European elections. I tasted some local beers all...

I'd say Italy, somewhere in the northern Tuscany or maybe even southern Emilia-Romagna. The architecture is too "South Europe" even for Germany, and the rolling hills with palm tree trunks look more like the Appennines than the Alpes (Dolomites) or Pyrenees.

I'd say Cologne is about 800km eastwards of them, roughly estimated. Now that I looked at it - I didn't realize, that they're on a lower latitude. Things I've learned because of HBT. Darn, St. Peter Port would have been my next guess, but it's already out... Newport, Isle of Wight?

Germany too far east, Portugal is far too South and also Portugal is ruled out at all - so also not the Azores nor the Canares. I rule out Spain, as it's also the latitude of Portugal. And "The Low Countries" (interesting term). It has palms so .. not Iceland (I cant't remember palm trees in a...

What I did for beer today

Small batch brewday - so into my Utility Muffin Beer Research Kitchen I went... Now that the sweet dried orange peel arrived from a spice vendor, I've taken another step towards BlueHouseBrewhaus' recipe and made a lager from it (I need to restock ale yeasts, but it's not worth the postage...

    Monteith's Summer Ale help

Today I brewed my "BlueHouseBrewhaus'-Monteith's Summer Ale Clone-Clone" Lager (what a name) with my small batch setup (5ltr). I do have quite hard tap water (13,2°dH carbonate hardness : 74,1 mg/l Ca, 21,5g/l Mg). For large batches usually I treat it to reach like 0-2°dH for lager beers, but...

What I did for beer today

I tasted my Kiwifornia Common this weekend (both versions, with and without ginger) and I'm especially happy with the plus ginger result. To be honest with myself: I'm glad I dryhopped this experimental version of a California common, otherwise it's a bit too bland. I had no biscuit malt, when I...

    Monteith's Summer Ale help

After a few loooooong weeks of waiting while my split batch experiment matured, it was time for the beer tasting last night. I separated 5 litres of my California (Kiwifornia) Common, boiled it with ginger and fermented it. The result: my girlfriend is also delighted and really enjoyed it. I...

Neither Barcelona, nor Toledo. I'd say that this landmark is at least as famous as the works of Gaudi in Barcelona - if not more so. Some buildings in Toledo may have also experienced a similar architectural influence to the one we are looking for, but definitely not as pronounced.
