    Campden tablets for beer

Actually, most articles I read about removal state that chloramine cannot be removed from water by boiling, distilling or reverse osmosis. However its usually linked to someone selling a filter that claims to remove it. Its giving me a headache...;)

    Campden tablets for beer

I usually add 1/2 tablet to my 5 gallon pot..stir and let sit for 30 minutes prior to boil (to remove chloromine). I am not sure if it makes that much difference to be honest, but it makes me feel better. Do a search on these forums for campden tablets or chloramine for more information.

Have you tried Sierra Nevadas Kellerwies? My favorite by far! I read in a post on this forum (srry no link..but sure you could search for it) that they use an OPEN fermentation style that promotes high esters for a more pronounced flavor. Its fantastic..and I plan on trying this next batch I...

    Bottles to avoid. Proffered bottles?

Fullers London Pride and ESB (11.2 ounces) are REALLY dark and thick glass. Although at $12 a six they are pricey. I really like them though..and it gives me an excuse to buy more ESB! As far as ones to avoid..IMO avoid the Belgium styles (require corking) of course if you want to cork..then...

    immersion chiller build question

Wow..I guess our groundwater is cold compared to others. Or...am I taking too long to chill? I have a 50 foot chiller with about one ring showing out of the 5 gallons of Wort at full boil. I can chill to 78 in almost exactly 10 minutes using a floating therm while I constantly stir. Too...

    Help! Please..

I was just trying to follow the instructions listed on the site. I will admit, however, to making a starter for a Bavarian Hefe that definately didnt need it, and the more I read about Hefe's can be easily overpitched. http://www.northernbrewer.com/twostagecold/ Thanks for all the great...

    Help! Please..

Sweet. Thanks..had me caught in a rock and a hard place. 1. Smacked Yeast early to make starter..but possibly to long (2 1/2 days till brew day) to let sit without some dying. 2. No home brew shop within 60 miles. 3. Only DME on hand was from the kit. Lesson learned. ;)

    Help! Please..

Yes..1.062 OG... I used 1/4 cup of the DME from the kit..but if I pour all of it in as a starter will I lose much ABV?

    Help! Please..

Not sure how clear my question was. The DME that came with the Belgium Abbey Ale kit from Northern B. Can I use some if that for the yeast starter?
  16. W

    Help! Please..

I smacked my wyeast pack last night and planned on making my starter tonight. However, I think my wife chucked my DME starter! Would it make a huge difference if I use the DME that came with the kit to make my starter???? Ack!!
