Keggle pickup missing a lot of wort in deadspace

I have the same setup as you, i took a hammer to the end of the tube and flattened it out a bit, that seemed to help me get a little more of that precious wort from the pot.

    Pre boil gravity reading-temp adjust

I do this, putting a glass hydrometer in hot wort is going to stress the glass over time, which could lead to a broken hydrometer. Just cool it down, take your reading and toss it back in the boil.

    Carbonated Taste That Fades

The carbonationy taste that disappears is the CO2 escaping the beer as it warms up. Warmer liquids don't hold gases as well as colder liquids do. I had a scottish heavy that had the carbonic acid bite from overcarbing when i first started kegging. My solution now is to set it at 10-15 psig and...

Hi, thank you, and need some advice

I just transitioned to no-chill brewing, theres a good thread on it somewhere in here. Saves some effort at the end of the boil and the beer tastes the same. You just have to adjust the hop schedule a bit. It might be cheaper to just buy the copper and make your own chiller too, i made my...

Side effects of under-shooting full boil volume?

You can also buy a 5 gallon nylon paint strainer bag and strain all that break/hop material out after it cools. This will also help aerate the wort prior to pitching. They catch pretty much all of the material, and even if it misses a little bit it will end up in the trub after it ferments. In...

Variations of Carbonation in bottles due to bottle capper?

Could be your priming sugar is not mixing well causing some bottles to have more sugar and some to have less. I think if it was a capper issue you'd have more bottles that were flat, and it would be less likely to cause an overcarbed bottle.

Kick in the @$$ ginger flavour

I make ginger tea and ginger candy from the ginger i use in the tea. I basically chop up a ginger root and boil it in a couple of cups of water. The resulting extract i then dilute with water and add honey/lemon to calm down the ginger fire taste. You might be able to make an extract like that...

    Paint strainer mesh bags

I use nylon paint bags that i got from a local sherwin-williams store, I've never used the plastic ones before. Depending on how much break material you have in your wort it will clog the bag. I dunk my arms in a bucket of starsan after pouring the wort through and then scrunch up the top and...

    Hey, don't throw that away...

Awesome link, thanks for that. I've been putting my spent grains in the compost heap, I think now i may use some for those recipes.

Good bye to sediment in bottles

Sedex website says "The innovative, universal design of the BRODIE means it is reusable and fits standard glass screw top stubbies or bottles." So yes. Would have to start collecting screw top bottles at that point too.

Good bye to sediment in bottles

Seems cool, kinda expensive though at a little over $2 per cap. Understanding you can reuse them, i wonder how many bottle caps would equal that price though vs really is sediment that big of an issue?

    Brewmasters Warehouse

I routinely order from brewmasters, true they have been getting slower and slower, but i like that i can order the exact amount of grains i need and get it all in one bag. Thats nice for me, in lieu of having to order minimum one pound of grains and then match it to other recipes so as not to...

What to do after a disastrous day?

Did you hit your final volume correctly? If you boiled it down too much that could explain the higher gravity. What temperature did you take the gravity at and did you temperature correct it? If your OG is too high you can always add some clean water that your had previously boiled to lower your...

Wort Chiller: 3/8" or 1/2" diameter copper?

I kinked mine a bit, but i did it by myself, i second having a helper when you do it. If i remember correctly when i did mine it held the shape pretty much immediately. I actually use the no-chill method of cooling now and don't even use my chiller anymore. i pour off the hot wort into my hdpe...

Second all grain batch, far better brew day

Congrats on the successful brew day. I think my first 6 brew days all had some different issue that made it less than fun, but in the end i still ended up with tasty beer. On your efficiency issue, how are you sparging batch or fly? I recently started taking note to calculate my efficiency and...
