"polishing your keg" is more than a clever euphemism

I think you're making it too complicated but others who have completed this can chime in. All I'm doing is starting with Medium - working out as many of the deep scratches as I can, then switching to fine, ultimately following up with the polishing pad and compound. I'm using what I think is...

Brewery Build - Single Tier HERMS

I can ask Wednesday when we pick up our frame. He's a friend of ours that does these types of projects on the side - has a family and full time daily job so I'm not sure how much availability he has but I can ask. As far as tubing - it's 2" square for the frame itself - I'll have to check on...

Brewery Build - Single Tier HERMS

flananuts - Interesting design; I like it. Glad it's working out for you. I'm not sure what the fittings are called that we found at the hardware store - but they are basically just compression fittings. We'll solder a little stub to the one end of the compression fitting and then a threaded...

2 Stage Low Pressure Propane Regulator

We're trying to figure out what regulator we need for our brewstand. We've been reading several posts on here that suggest having a 2 stage regulator - we'll need low pressure with 11 wc output. I've been looking but most are fairly low BTU ratings. What would be a good regulator that will...

Brewery Build - Single Tier HERMS

Greg - we've actually been toying around with how we want to connect our HERMS coil - after a trip to the hardware store yesterday I think we've got a plan that allows us to remove the coil if we need to at any point - however that's unlikely I think. I'll post details when we get to that point...

Brewery Build - Single Tier HERMS

Yeah - it's no inexpensive undertaking that's for sure. But we've done pretty well saving in many places I believe. The spreadsheet doesn't reflect everything currently - I'll post later which should reflect everything. We're leaning more towards the silicone because I've seen folks have good...

Brewery Build - Single Tier HERMS

Yup - I'm tracking the actuals (like the first post says - I'm a bit OCD) I've been tracking everything in a detailed spreadsheet. The final build sheet with links to all of the products we purchased, part #s, prices (including shipping cost per vendor for orders) will be posted.

Brewery Build - Single Tier HERMS

Could call on the pump location - it had actually crossed my mind a while back - we'll likely put a 90 on there and have the QD come off to the side of the pump so its an easier hose route without risk of kinking. Oh by the way:) I'm the oldest son - my dad and younger brother haven't made the...

Brewery Build - Single Tier HERMS

Undetermined at this point - we picked those up and were just looking for 1 more but after taking a closer look at them, especially one, they are pretty beat up (dented and don't sit flat). So we scored 3 nice kegs. We'll probably use them for fermenters or other projects later on.

Brewery Build - Single Tier HERMS

01/15/10 Update: Got word last night that the welding on the stand is all done (minus hinges which we'll take care of Wednesday of next week when we go to pick up the stand). We've still got quite a bit of work to go but that's a big step in the right direction. Items we're still working...

    Jockey Box Questions

Rather not - copper really shouldn't come in contact with beer post fermentation. Don't really like the possibility of copper poisoning. I'll keep an eye on eBay - there's one right now for fairly cheap but it is a few years old and doesn't look all that clean. Maybe something will come up...

    Jockey Box Questions

As if I don't have enough home brew projects - I'm already thinking about another I want to try and tackle down the road. Was doing some research today on building a Jockey Box. I've read a few things and will stay clear of copper tubing (although I know some folks have gone that route - I'd...

    stainless conicals in Oregon

On the site and believe it's even mentioned in this thread.

favorite false bottom for boil keggle

I'd echo that - we bought 2 off Jaybird, good quality and sturdy FBs. Plus he will make them to your spec. We got 2 hinged, 15" (sits higher which we liked), and 1/2" dip tube hole.

    no weld brutus ten?

Sorry - I was more suggesting the overall parts for the system - not specifically the stand build. Yeah we are having a friend of ours do the welding, although I'll update the pricing - the bill of materials from the metal supplier ended up being more and our design was more complex as well so...

    no weld brutus ten?

If I've got some time this weekend I'll try and search for the builds I remember seeing. Also - if it is of any help, you might check out the thread where I'm providing details on our build. I'm a bit of a penny pincher so I'm trying to get the best deals possible on things. I'll upload the...

Brewery Build - Single Tier HERMS

We'll be using silicone tubing - likely the stuff from Austin Homebrew and making several sets of tubing. Correct, we'll also be using the cam locks on all of our fittings. No hard plumbing for liquid.

    Stainless cam lock fittings

Don't quote me on it - BUT I called and placed my order yesterday with Pro Flow asking them to wait until everything was back in stock - they expected a shipment yesterday or today and I just got my shipment notification from UPS that they shipped. Confirmed - showing in stock on their website.

    no weld brutus ten?

Not sure about the galvanized stuff you're referring to but if you search the forums (it takes a little time - I did it to get ideas for our build) there are a few builds mentioned here in the Equipment and in the DIY forum where brewers have built single tier stands without welding. You might...

Source for SS 1/2" Tube x 1/2" NPT Fittings

Anyone seen a better price on SS tube fittings with 1/2" Tube x 1/2" NPT fittings than McMaster - $17.50. 5182K135 http://www.mcmaster.com/#16175a74/=58swqx Need a few of them for our dip tubes and before I pull the trigger at McMaster just wanted to see if anyone knew of a place - doubt I'll...
