    Propane burner efficiency?

Kai, Thanks, that's the info I wanted. On my first/last (I've only done one) AG batch, I got about a 27% boil-off, but that's including a boil-over, so I'll have to wait until next time and watch it a bit more carefully to see what the rate actually is. I'm sure I could have turned down the...

    Propane burner efficiency?

Well, I was more looking at improving efficiency. The burner I have now brought 6.5 gallons to an insane boil, so I'm not concerned with total output, but maximizing my LP tank now. I understand that any burner could have 1million BTUs if you put enough propane through it, so that's not the...

    Final Gravity to high

Oxygenation and pitching enough yeast come to mind, as well as making sure that the fermentation is indeed done. Did you oxygenate/shake it up well, and are you sure you pitched at least 1 billion cells/liter?

    Propane burner efficiency?

Hello, I'm curious if any of you have the same burner as I, and if so, how many hours of brewing you get out of a 20# tank. Mine is the same as the King Kooker at http://www.northernbrewer.com/burners.html , just with a different frame. I'm GASing pretty bad, because after dumping about...

DIY Mash/Lauter tun & wort chiller

Post boil, yeast & starter pitched into it as well. If I'd been smart I would have checked SG prior to the pitching, but I'll have to do some math, and that'll probably bump the SG higher as well, making an even better efficiency. There's always next batch though, so now I just get to wait a...

DIY Mash/Lauter tun & wort chiller

Hey, Just letting anyone watching the previous thread know that I got an 80.0 efficiency, after a minor boilover, and including an excessive evaporation rate (55k BTU propane unit) that should have been at 27.7%/hr. I'll have to tune closer next time, but just saying that a $100...

DIY Mash/Lauter tun & wort chiller

I attached the manifold, but it's not glued, so it'll come apart quickly if needed. I think I have the pipes ran and holes drilled in such a fashion that they'll all receive water, with the surface tension (I think) making it so there has to be a little bit of extra water pushing out through a...

DIY Mash/Lauter tun & wort chiller

Hey all, This week I've been looking at what it'll take to go AG from extract, and I made my mash/lauter tun and wort chiller (I'd been getting by by doing condensed wort boils and chilling in an ice bath in the sink). I've taken pictures, and totalled up what it all cost me, not too much...

My Cream Ale is too Brown

I picked up a 44qt SS stockpot & propane burner combo at costco a couple days ago, just shy of $100. Added a propane tank for 20 more. I'd guess that other ones have them too.

Extract w/ Rye & Biscuit Malts?

Hello, I'm looking at doing the IPA recipe in the Dec 06 Brew Your Own magazine, and it calls for Rye & Biscuit malts to be used, even in the extract recipe. As I understood from reading, you'd need the enzymes from the barley to turn these into sugars for the yeast. Am I off here? Do they...
