    Flowers (edible) in beer?

I stumbled upon this site: http://www.foodsubs.com/Flowers.html and of course started to wonder which ones would help in flavor. I'm just sharing/thinking. You know how it is. :D

    Grow hops over a pergola?

:D Funny man.....naw, I grow giant pumpkins and they require a lot of care to get big and healthy.

    Grow hops over a pergola?

OK. I fiddle with my pumpkins that much so it shouldn't be bad. Thanks for the input.

    Grow hops over a pergola?

I've reserved some rhizomes to start this year, 2 Cascade, 2 Willamette, 2 Centennial. If I build a pergola will they grow over it to provide me with shade in my yard? I've been wanting to build a pergola for some time now and if they will grow on that it would be sweet.

Brewing up a Kolsch, yeast question

I just did Northern Brewers Kolsch beer last saturday for my second brew. I used Safale US-05 Ale Yeast. They also offer to use wyeast 1010 american wheat. Kolsch on the left, it has turned a little lighter since the picture

    non-contact thermometer?

    Good points.

    non-contact thermometer?

Anyone use a non-contact thermometer to watch the temp of the wort? I'm going to try it out, just to see how I like it. I don't have a thermometer mounted in my pot so this is why I'm thinking about it.

all grain on electric stovetop, is it possible?

Stove element wattage does differ from model to model and some glass tops will cycle the element to protect itself. If you have an older stove you can change out the element for a 2600W (the highest available) for under $15. Older stoves can vary from 2000W to 2600W for the large burner. This...

    first 5 gallon batch

I don't know, but it seems logical to me to let it remove as much Krausen as it naturally can. But I suppose it is up there with better bottle vs. glass carboy vs. bucket and secondary or not..... I'm used to my Mr. Beer and it's primary fermentation sort of design (though I suppose you could...

Prepping for first brew day (time and tips needed)

A lot of stuff can be done at the same time, like sanitizing while you wait for the water to heat up. 3 or 4 hours I'd say. Have a good time!! And before you know it, your kids can help and learn a little about science and application vs theory. Whatcha brewin? You can't withhold that...

    first 5 gallon batch

I don't doubt that they are nice. I round up. 4.5 is close enough to 5 for me. My point being that a lot of my posts, for whatever reason, end up as technical problems that brewers feel the need to solve. If I was really a new brewer, just getting started, all this 'help' would turn me...

    first 5 gallon batch

I hope it does blow off. That's what the big tube is for (it is routed to a 5 gallon bucket with fluid). http://www.beersmith.com/blog/2009/10/10/better-beer-with-the-burton-union-blow-off-method/ And for the record.....I can not stop staring at it! It is a gorgeous site to watch and behold.

    first 5 gallon batch

meh. I have beer. I'm not sure how pointing out my apparent quantity is helpful? I'm still happy with my beer and quantity. I still had a lot of fun brewing it. I had a good time chasing off the honey bees that seemed to come around as I was boiling the wort.

    first 5 gallon batch

thanks mr. technical... at any rate, it will hopefully blow off some and I will end up with 4.876 gallons of beer instead of the 2.411 gallons of beer I have been brewing.
