Starsan - How long does it last and is it OK to leave tubing soaking?

Star San is usable until the PH rises to above about 3.5. When it gets cloudy it is a sign that it probably has. Making it with low mineral water can help. RO or distilled are both low mineral. I'm not as sure about the tubing. I've had that happen before. I think if you let it dry out it...

    Beer Gun Carbonation Question

You might be getting the beer gun mixed up with one of these. https://www.blichmannengineering.com/quickcarb.html I've never used one, but they are designed to carb up something quickly by recirculating it thorugh a CO2 stone. That is way too much work and equipment for me.

how about a meme generator thread...

of course, in those days 10 gallons might only get you about 50 miles! 😛

How to lower PH in your mash.

It’s definitely good to take notes and adjust for next time. I think giving up on a brew is for those who brew constantly though. If I’m going through the trouble of giving up a day to brew, I’m going to adjust even after the mash has started. At the very least it isn’t going to hurt. At best it...

Incoporating coriander and orange peel to extract

You can also make a tincture by soaking them in vodka for several days then pouring that in during or after fermentation. The alcohol in the vodka will sanitize them. I've always put the coriander in at the end of the boil as easttex suggested but did the orange as a tincture after...

    Anyone ever make "hop water"?

I had a thread like this a few years ago. There are some more ideas shared by others in there as well. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/threads/hop-water-anybody-make-this-before.642326/

My keg isn't pouring - help? (Sometimes, I think kegging is harder than brewing...)

What kind of tap are you using? If you had debris in the poppet there is a chance there is more stuck downstream somewhere. Likely points would be the disconnect as mentioned, it could also be at a fitting or at the tap itself. If beer flows when you push down the poppet on the keg, the problem...

Is there a way to analyze grain mill particle size and distribution?

I don't see how a sieve is going to work very effectively with the husks in there. They would tend to block up your sieve I would think. You might get some things to fall through, but it would not give you results similar to a coffee grind. IMHO you would be far better off picking a gap that...

Spike Conical- observations and best practices

That is the valve that came with my SsBrewtech conical. It works ok, but isn’t great. It’s hard to clean to a sanitary condition without fully disassembling it every time.

    IT HAS ARRIVED !!!!

Just in case it's not clear, brewing with f*'d up ingredients is an advanced topic. (And one favored by the sadists on this thread!) I would not recommend starting with a compromised kit for your first beer. I also started with a starter kit. (From Northern Brewer) It was one of the best beers...

    IT HAS ARRIVED !!!!

For this? Hot water and dish soap are a good choice.

Dry hopping in conical without clogging

IMHO the best process is to size up your recipe to allow for about 1/2 gallon of waste/trube. Then drop the yeast after primary fermentation is over. Dry hop on whatever schedule you are on. 1-3 days prior to racking to kegs dump the hops out the bottom. This should give you a decent shot at...

Do I understand this bulk grain thing correctly?

Do what works for you. I tend to be on the conservative side with chemicals in my body. (Other than alcohol of course!) I favored glass and now stainless for my fermenter for instance. I’m no biologist or chemist, so I tend to just stay on the safe side. I know in could eat off of a lot of...

Do I understand this bulk grain thing correctly?

Trash bags are often a bad idea. They are most likely not food safe and in some cases contain scents and/or anti microbial chemicals.

Several questions for experienced all grain brewers

That certainly looks like stainless steel. I think you just have built up some residue from the heat/wort. If it bothers you some Bar Keepers Friend and some elbow grease will get that off.

Several questions for experienced all grain brewers

You should post a picture of your heating element. If you take some steel wool or even just some brewer's friend to it and clean it off you will quickly learn if it is copper or stainless. I calibrate my PH meter every brew day. That is what you are supposed to do by laboratory standards. Mine...

First Scoby - damaged shipment Help!

Absolutely use it. You are essentially going to grow new scoby all the time anyway. All you need is the microorganisms to get things started.

Fermentrack: Fermentation monitoring & BrewPi-www Replacement for Raspberry Pi

Have you checked all your wiring connections? I used these connectors to the boards so I could pull things apart if needed. I often find I need to go in and wiggle them and press them in. My problem seems to be the temp sensor connection as that is what gets lost.

I'm an apartment brewer looking to level up to all-grain brewing and need some advice/guidance

I third or quadruple the advice to get something that works for you now and plan to get rid of it when you want to upgrade. My system is a bit of a Frankenstein because I like to buy whatever I think is great quality with the thought that I’ll have it forever. Great plan, except as I’ve learned...
