How can I ensure my ball valve is set and maintained properly?

Wait what are o-rings!? :p Welded fittings for the win!!

    Rust!!

I guess I'm not understanding why it's junk? I've seen people use hack welded kegs that are sugared terribly. Clean it up with Bar Keepers Friend. I think he'll be surprised on how well it'll clean up. The fact he's using a plastic cooler and SS braid instead of kettle and FB tells me he's a...

    Rust!!

I don't agree with either of the above statements. It is stainless but it might not be 304SS (which is fine). It might be a lower grade/different grade. Either way it should be fine. Just use some Bar Keepers Friend to polish the rust away. Should be good to go down.

    Anvil Boil Kettle Screen

Have you looked into using a whirlpool?

    SsBrewTech Whirlpool Demo (Video)

You have to deal with inches of trub? With the Spike kettle, whirlpool and side pick up there is practically no hop/trub that gets into my fermenter.

    SsBrewTech Whirlpool Demo (Video)

I've used both. In my opinion the trub dam is just a gimmick. The trub and hop material just flows around the dam. If it went all the way around to the sides then maybe it would work but as designed it doesn't do anything.

    Anvil Boil Kettle Screen

Wait, people actually purchased based on this marketing gimmick? Ha this reminds me of the new Lebron James (net worth $300mil) commercial showing him driving a Kia. This is a boil screen that they have marked up about 4.5 times. Branding at it's finest...

Aluminum false bottom is it Safe?

Safe? Will it kill you? No. Best material for the job? No. Stainless or bust is my opinion for brewing eq. A big downside of aluminum is you can't use cleaners like PBW on them.

    SSBrewtech Fermenter pitting

Although SS Brew recommends "passivating" with StarSan in reality StarSan does not passivate stainless steel. The welds are polished and should be passivated from the factory. There is nothing you can do (or need to do) from home other than giving it a good clean with either dish soap (I like...

    SSBrewtech Fermenter pitting

Stainless passivates instantly with the oxygen in the atmosphere :mug:

    SSBrewtech Fermenter pitting

Did I ever mention anything about beer stone?? I don't know what you're trying to argue. My original post said that StarSan doesn't passivate stainless steel. That is still true. I did not mention anything about StarSan and beer stone. Again I'm trying to get across the misnomer that StarSan...

    SSBrewtech Fermenter pitting

You are wasting your time at home 'passivating' with StarSan. Where in your link does it talk about phosphoric acid (StarSan) being used as a passivation agent? Passivation is used in industry for multiple reasons. One of the most common is when something is welded. Again there are multiple...

    SSBrewtech Fermenter pitting

This whole passivation thing recently is driving me nuts!! SS naturally passivates with oxygen. There is no need to passivate your equipment. You can't "scrub off the passivated layer". Clean the surface and it'll naturally passivate. Also StarSan (phosphoric acid) at room temp does not...

Mash Tun for a RIMMS, how big is TOO Big?

I agree that I am short with people and get annoyed at dumb (in my opinion) questions. However the poster after me re-iterated my point so at least I wasn't the only one. I guess people that beat topics and questions to death is a pet peeve of mine. It happens far too often on here. Relax...

Mash Tun for a RIMMS, how big is TOO Big?

Holy long read Batman! I've read this twice and still am not sure what you're asking. It's quite convoluted and I see why Spike told you to just go to BeerSmith. If you're doing 10gal batches you'll need a 15 or 20gal kettle. If you do large beers get the 20. If you don't get the 15. It's not...

Here's what a real sanitary weld should look like courtesy of Spike Brewing's website.

    Floating Heating Element

Many people will say this because it is insanely dangerous on so many levels. Water and electricity do not mix. A tupperware bin is in now way the proper container for a element float and neither is the element in use. Now multiply that by the exposed terminals and you're seriously asking to...

    Mild Steel for False Bottom?

Why wouldn't you just buy one of the many many false bottom options that are already on the market?

    Floating Heating Element

This is quite possibly the stupidest thing I've ever seen. Are you trying to kill yourself? You're betting your life on a GFCI outlet trips before your heart does? Dear lord anyone else viewing this thread please do not attempt for your own safety.
