    Three things to open beer

Its badass. I got it (along with the phone) back in November from my wife. Very well thought out design and extremely well made.

Another Lowes 5 Gallon gucket question

I love these buckets! I use them as bright tanks to store uncarbed batches waiting on kegs to empty. They are exactly 5 gallons though, so if you are going to ferment in them I wouldnt do a batch size much bigger than 3.5 gallons or so. Been using them for a few months with no off flavors.

    wedding in pa

The venue is going to be your roadblock. Many venue's flat-out refuse to allow alcohol not provided by them. I had the same idea back in 09 at my wedding. They will call it a liability issue, which allows them to charge 300 bucks a keg for BMC.. A backyard wedding wouldn't be a problem, but if...

    edworts apfelwein

I have tested it a few different ways. The wife and I prefer lightly carbed. 2.5oz dextrose per 5 gallon batch seems to do the trick. I think its just a matter of experimenting and deciding what you like.

Adding Anything with Less than 20 to go?

I'm confused? Are we talking 20 minutes left in the boil? Cause thats when I (and I thought everyone) add flavoring hops? Most of my recipes have either a 5 min or flameout addition. Maybe I'm not understanding the question?

    Back Sweetening Pumpkin Ale

Hey all.... looking for some suggestions. I brewed a pumpkin ale about 2 weeks ago and took a gravity reading last night. It ended up finishing much lower than I was shooting for (1.002 from 1.060). It's going to get another 2 weeks aging before I keg/bottle it. Anyway, I am going to need to...

    I Love Bud

I personally do not like McDonalds cheeseburgers. I think they are disgusting, and quite frankly they make me sick when I eat them. One time I saw my friend eating a Big Mac so I tackled him and started shoving my superior homemade burgers into his mouth until he admitted I was right. Then I...

    dfh punkin

Everywhere around here is completely sold out. I ended up finding the 15oz organic cans at Wegmans but they only had a few cans left. I was surprised at how difficult it was to find.

    dfh punkin

I am brewing a clone of this as I type. I'm guessing the price is due to Sam also having to fight a little old lady for cans of overpriced organic pumpkin...

I'm bringing back the "Is secondary necessary?" argument

Your LHBS makes money from selling you something called a "Secondary Fermenter." Therefore it is in his best interest to give you advice that would end in you buying additional equipment from his business. You can read forums and scientific research until your eyes bleed. If you are really...

    Well this is strange?

Thanks everyone for taking the time to answer. I am going to try another bottle that wasn't refrigerated tonight. It will be about 6 weeks in the bottle, so we shall see.

    Well this is strange?

I heated the priming sugar with some water then added that to the bottle bucket and racked on top of the mixture. Then I gave it a few light stirs with a sanitized spoon.

    Well this is strange?

Tried to search, but honestly have no idea what to search for on this one..... I generally keg my beers and fill bottles with the BMBF (when I bottle), but for this wit I decided to bottle condition to keep it cloudy and yeasty. I used Beersmith to carb to style (2.4 if I remember correctly)...

Question about time to drain MLT

I use almost the exact same setup at you. Has worked well for me. It can take a while to drain, half hour sounds about right. If I'm in a hurry I will throw a handfull of rice hulls in with the mash, which seems to speed it up. Usually I'll just open a beer and wait.

    Racking w/ Fruit in carboy?

I have found that the hopbag works better on the bucket side of the transfer. Also, since the fruit floats and yeast sinks I hold the racking cane in the middle as much as possible. Any fruit that makes it through the siphon will be caught by the bag at the end. Just make sure your bag is big...

Can I use S04 with this recipe?

I have ordered several liquid strains in the heat of the summer without ice packs. I'm in PA so about the same shipping time as you from Georgia. Step it up with a small starter first then pitch into a larger one. I have never had an issue with off flavors or anything. You will know within a day...
