Cool. Tell ya what. I'll make the order on say 1/31, so everyone that wants rhizomes pm me your wishes and address before then. As soon as I get the rhizomes and payment (I'll set up paypal or bank furikomi), I'll ship them out to everybody. Sound good?

If you're going to order to Japan, lets do a bulk order together to save on shipping. Also note that I haven't confirmed that all of them offer certificates and/or ship abroad. EDIT: I emailed Farmhouse 3 days ago about both points, and they have yet to respond. It's still Sunday in the US, and...

Here ya go I retract my statement. You are indeed correct.

I'd like to know that too. I imagine the Japanese cultivars are all licensed to heck though, and impossible to get as a result. So are we going to batch-order some rhizomes this year? I see that MoreBeer and Adventures in Homebrewing have their preorder pages set up. I'm thinking Citra or...

    Fermentation chamber planning

The problem isn't finding a fridge to fit my ferm. The problem is finding a fridge that fits in my closet, AND fits my ferm. My space requirements are so narrow that I think I'm better off just making it myself. I've decided to keep a smaller freezer full of coolant, and pump that out to...

Tektonjp, I think you mean 60,000 liters., which is 10 homebrews/day. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beer_in_Japan#Microbreweries (sorry for the crappy link, I'm on mobile) My friend was talking about something a lot more recent though... I'm thinking he mixed himself up. EDIT: I was wrong...

I just bought some rye malt from Brewland. I've had a lot fewer reliability issues with them vs. advanced brewing. For liquid yeast I recommend Hop and Grape out of the UK. Someone (Guzzibrew maybe?) introduced them earlier in this thread. It's a bit of a wait but their shipping rates are much...

brewingpowder, welcome to the community. I believe that brewland gets their 20kg bags from Asahi- it doesn't say so on the bag, but the styles are exactly the same as Asahi's offerings, and it's listed as "domestic" malt, so... They're around 7000JPY/bag through brewland, and it requires no BS...

    Fermentation chamber planning

So I live in a very small apartment, and SWMBO has gracefully bestowed me with a single small closet to confine all my beer junk in. The result of this is that I have not the room to fit a refrigerator (or at least one that will fit my fermenters too), and I must completely DIY my ferm chamber...

I'd love to take a look around there. I've heard they're growing hops and doing all kinds of beer-related stuff, so I'm sure it would be really interesting. I finally got the materials together to do my next brew today! It's a 1.068 OG Irish Red, and thanks to everyone's advice, I managed to...

A dozen? There were probably 25 at the one I went to. I almost cried I was so happy and surprised.

Hey Shizuokabrad, I just found a supermarket in Toyosu called "Food Store Aoki" that carries a ton of craft and imported beer. It's the only one in Tokyo, but apparently it's all over Shizuoka. Do you know it?

Apparently SWMBO's grandparents might be down with me turning their backyard into a hop garden! Their neighbors apparently have had a 2m-tall plant for years. No idea what variety though. Gotta follow up on both points.

Well when I first looked into BIAB I planned on making a bag and couldn't find material, and now my source for bags has run out of large ones. There are other ¥100 stores around tho. I just gotta find one with the right stuff. Edit: sorry for double-posting!

Man I really want to get in on this, but Tokyo apartments are none too conducive to hop growing. SWMBO is down with it, though, so let's give it a try and hop for the best! :D I'm thinking of trying to order some varieties from overseas, as the varieties here seem limited. Does anyone want to...

Thanks for the advice guys. Yeah, my bags were full-up after absorbing the water. I think it was straining the stitches when I pulled it out of the mash. I found bags big enough once, so I'm sure if I look hard I can get them again. I bought my grain crushed from Brewland- I still haven't...

I'm thinking about growing a couple of rhizomes, too. I wonder how good the yield gets? Brendan, I've been getting terrible efficiencies on my last couple of brews, using those laundry bags you recommended. What kind of efficiency do you normally get? My last two brews were at 40% and 49%...

Haha, yeah morebeer gift certs were already on my list. I'll take a look at ebay and yahoo auctions, maybe I can find something. SWMBO has forbidden me to buy the JPY 12,000 corona mill I saw on brewland, so I have to find something cheaper.

Well guys I messed up. I accidentally ordered whole grains instead of crushed, and now I have 4.5kg of ale malt taunting me for not owning a mill. Do you think a neighborhood rice store would be able to crush it for me?
