    shelving strength for many fermenters

If you have a Sams Club near you, and can get in, I know that my local one has a wire rack system that is a similar design to the ones that they use in warehouses, just built with smaller beams, etc. Those are extremely strong, and I seem to remember that the cost was not that bad.

    Best Mash Tun

Pardon my squirrely ignorance, but what does the sparging method have to do with anything? I am only in the process of putting my gear together for all grain, so I have no experience in the matter, and I am truly curious. The whole point of the manifold, or false bottom, or braid, is to get...

Pick 6 - Beer for Thought

Grinder, Having just come across this thread, and skimmed through it quickly, I think that one thing to keep in mind about Designing Great Beers, no matter how much everyone talks it up, no matter how great of a book it is, it is 12 years old, the most recent edition is almost 9 years old, and...

    alternatives to malt extract?

Pretty much any definition that I can find anywhere, dictionaries, wikipedia, etc, all match up to what wikipedia says: That being said, I have to agree that it sounds like the OP wants to reproduce a commercial malt beverage like Zima.

Dear every teacher I've ever had...

That is the key right there, go talk to the teacher. Find out what it is that they want, and give it to them. No matter what else you think about your writing, they are the one giving the grade, and if you want the best grade possible, you will write the way that they want you to.

Question about buying a converted keg...

Thanks man... I think I might go ahead and do it... I still want to learn how to weld and do it myself, but I also want to get brewing again as soon as possible. The local technical college has a welding class two nights a week, but the current one started a few weeks ago, so now I will have...

Question about buying a converted keg...

So I have a possible line on a converted keg, standard 1/2 barrel sankey keg, top cut out, a handle and some tabs welded to it so that it acts as a lid, four full size 1/2" couplers welded in, one for the valve, one for the thermometer, one for the sightglass, and one for a return for...

If you brew beer, you're an alcoholic. If you make wine, you're intriguing

This from the guy who turned a garbage can into a kegerator :D sorry, couldn't help myself on the cheap shot... Seriously though, I don't think that I have ever run into anyone that looks down on me for brewing, but I think that part of it has to do with the passion that I show about beer...

Help me decide which style chiller.

I would go ahead and recirculate the wort until you see that it is running nice and clear, and then start running it through the chiller. I have been thinking that, when I finish building my new system and move from my home built counter-flow chiller to a plate chiller, that I will recirculate...
