    temp question for bottled lager

Sweet, thanks for the insight :)

    temp question for bottled lager

I have a newbie question... Why would you want to warm it up to carb it? If it's a lager it ferments at lower temps right? So wouldn't it make sense to store the bottles at fermentation temp so that the yeast will ferment the remaining sugar and create carbonation?

Intro and a Question on longterm value of kits

Here's my starter gear. Immersion Chiller bought on ebay: $35 Keggle with Ball Valve purchased at a local Homebrew Club: $75 6.5 Gallon and 5 Gallon Carboys purchased at local Homebrew Club: $40 Wing capper given to me by friend that went to Kegs: Free Turkey Fryer broken on CL fixed with...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

It's def enough. That's exactly how much I used for 54 bottles. It took much longer than beer to carbonate. Just be patient and as they say Relax, Don't Worry, Have a Homebrew.

Does CO2 tank need to be upright?

It's called an anti-siphon and is pretty common with CO2. I don't think 45 degrees would pose a problem, but if you wanted to you could just add a long length of line between the tank and reg to act as an expansion chamber allowing the CO2 to expand before hitting the reg.

First batch of bottles and caps

Are those bottles etched? How much time/money would it take to do enough bottles for a batch of beer?

    Show me the LABEL!!!

I love pretty much everything that comes out of New Belgium, I've visited their brewery 3 times, and have posters of the original labels throughout the house.

    randomly carbed bottles

If you have to crimp twice you may look at buying a new capper. I have a red metal capper I love(and actually prefer over a bench capper) and I've never had to crimp anything twice. Sounds like you've got a problem with the bell.

    DIY Stir Plate. HELP!

I won't pretend to be an expert, I know jewelry is made from 316L Stainless. I guess now that you mention it I did know it was an allow, I wasn't thinking the best when I posted that response. But to the best of my knowledge if it's magnetic wouldn't you have to worry about it rusting because...

    DIY Stir Plate. HELP!

If it's truly stainless steel it's not magnetic. None of my piercings will stick to a magnet anyway because they're 100% stainless.

    Miller Lite Home Draft Dissected

I will back up claims about CO2 being a dirty gas. High end paintball guns use Nitrogen/HPA vs. CO2 for a variety of reasons. The two major are that under higher rates of fire CO2 will chill causing pressure to drop and the marker to freeze up, the second CO2 is considered a dirty gas among...

    Miller Lite Home Draft Dissected

Pellet gun CO2 carts are 12grams and wouldn't fit without a little modification I believe someone posted you could stack a couple dimes in the adapter so the smaller carts could be used. I posted a solution to hooking up a bulk air tank earlier in the thread. there's an adapter that consists...

    Online Label Printers

Haven't read any reviews, but NEATO prints labels or provides templates and sticker sheets. I was looking at ordering from them for my wedding in June. If anyone knows anything about them please let me know!

    Bottling woes

The one I used was bolted to a 2x2 piece of plywood. Stabilized it quite well.

    Legal...

If you're in Indianapolis check out Great Fermentations. It's east of Broad Ripple, they have competitive prices, and really go out of their way to help you. After shipping charges I find it cheaper to buy most of my stuff there.

    Bottling woes

A friend loaned me a bench capper for my first brew because he said the wing cappers were crap. Me and another buddy bottled my first 5 gallon batch using both and we were both WAY faster with the wing capper and preferred it. I've done a few other batches and don't plan on upgrading any time...
