    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

I miss this thread, too. It's what got me into doing small one gallon batches. I just brewed a single hops and dry malt (SHaME) batch on Monday. 15 minute boil, took an hour and twenty minutes from start to finish with everything cleaned up. 1 lb light DME (half added at 170F, the other half...

Dropped some of the yeast packaging in the Carboy!

Your beer will be fine. Probably even amazing. So much so that the next time you go to brew it, you'll probably be tempted to drop the tip of the smack pack into the carboy again just so it works out again. LOL. You think I'm kidding, but now that you read this, next time you brew you'll think...

    Are SMaSH recipes worth it?

I have nothing against extract. That's not what I am implying at all. I stumbled across that acronym online and even found some old threads here about it. That's where I got the idea. Like I said, I've done three batches that way this year. 2 came out really good, surprisingly good, and the...

    Are SMaSH recipes worth it?

It wouldn't be a SMaSH beer, it would be a SHaME beer (single hops and malt extract). Nothing wrong with that. I just brewed my 3 batch of SHaME beer. 1 gallon versions and only 15 minute boils. Takes about an hour twenty minutes for me from measuring out water to being done and all cleaned up...

Do recipes take trub losses into account?

Idk the exact amount but that’s probably too much. I brew to package 2.5 gallons or one case. 2.75 gallons into the fermenter and I get about .25g of trub leaving me with 2.5g to bottle.

5 Gallon BIAB Brown Ale Recipes?

Are you looking for a typical English brown ale or an American brown ale?

    First lager

My other question is should I cold crash it before transferring in order to try and compact some of the trub? I don’t think I’ve ever had this much. That’s more than 2 qts but it seems like it might compact.

    First lager

I brewed my first lager, American Light Lager from Brewing Classic Styles, on May 30 and today I took a sample and I’ve hit my FG of 1.006. Tastes good. No diacetyl that I can detect. Normally I let my ales go 3 weeks before I bottle. Should I go ahead and rack this to a secondary and start to...

Upgrading to bench capper, have a few questions...

Couple batches back I broke a bottle with a wing capper. Got the super agata model and love it. Much more enjoyable to use after you get used to it. Lube the bell so the bottles don't stick. The only thing I don't like is having to adjust to different height bottles. I've got normal bottles and...

    Blue Moon Clone

Oh gotcha. I don't know where my brain is today. That's kinda what I usually do. Figure out the middle ground for carbing a style and go with that. Had a Celis White last night and to me I think it is over carbonated.

    Blue Moon Clone

I do transfer 2.75 G into my 3G fermenter to allow for about .25G of trub to settle out. ;)

    Blue Moon Clone

Well I brewed this yesterday for the ladies for our annual river trip. BIAB 2.5 G batch. My boil gravity was supposed to be 1.037 and I hit 1.038, OG was supposed to be 1.050 and I got 1.051. Good enough for me. Even though I brewed it for the girls, I'm excited to try it out. What vol of CO2...

    Smoking mountain lion meat???

No experience, but I think it'd be pretty lean and easy to dry out. I'd braise it at a high heat in your smoker. 350+

    What will the neighbors think?

Depending on how the wind is blowing, I'll brew in my garage (front of house) or on the back porch. None of my neighbors really say anything when I brew out of the garage, but my back porch is on the 18th tee of a golf course. I've heard a lot of comments from the golfers. Mostly "what are you...

New Equipment for a Beginner Brewer

You can grind finer and not worry about getting a stuck sparge like you would with a mash tun. My grind for BIAB is almost flour.
