hops and grapevines, do they need the same?

Hi guys, My father in law has a small farm in the countryside. The area is known about it's wine, there are several vineyards around. I'd like to plant few rhizomes here next year. Can I assume that hops will grow well under the same conditions that grapevines need? Thanks.

    cooler vs. pot

Thanks for all your answer! As starsailor wrote, I didn't really understand why everyone else go with cooler, just because I didn't see the context. In long term I was planning to build my system of kegs. More or less the same what starsailor encuraged me to build. diS, it was great to...

    cooler vs. pot

Hi, Unfortunately beverage coolers are terribly expensive here (3x the US price). I can buy a huge stainless steel pots or 3 second hand 13 gallons keg for this price. Now I do the mashing in a 4.5 gallon stainless steel pot on the stove and lauter in a fermentation vessel with false bottom...

    rice hulls

Hi guys, For some reason rice hulls aren't avaliable from local homebrew shops. Fortunately I found two companies processing rice in my country. What do you think if I buy some rice hulls directly from them? Is it ready to brew? As much as I know the rice cleaning happens before removing...

    my beer is too bitter

Thanks for all your comment. I checked the water quality report as well as the Mash pH chapter in the Palmer book. I played with the excel sheet I downloaded from here: http://www.howtobrew.com/section3/chapter15-3.html (bottom of the page) I knew that our water is hard, I used boiled water so...

    my beer is too bitter

Hello everyone, Few weeks ago I tasted my second AG brew and it was beer like, but I wasn't satisfied at all. The taste was too bitter. It's a wheat beer and it tastes as bitter as a pilsner urquell. Not like a good pilsner, in the back part of my tounge, I feel bitterness everywhere in my...

5 gallon batch with a 5 gallon pot?

Hello everyone, Unfortunately I have only a 5 gallon pot at the moment. This lets me to boil 4 gallon (after boil) beer. But I really miss that one gallon. I can increase the amount the mash. Obviously the resulting wort would be more than 5 gallon after lautering, so I can't boil it at...

    Which size immersion wort chiller?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I remember if a thinner pipe is after a thicker one, the same amount of water has to flow through. This means that the water flows faster in the thinner pipe. Makes sense right? Consequently the same amount of water brings the heat away. The real...

    boilover?

Thanks for all your answer. I tried to avoid boilover by turning the gas down as soon as the foam started to break up. This didn't work very well. I was looking for this: and only got this: http://gyuriszlamka.smugmug.com/Hobbies/Cider/22426488_NzcBGR#!i=1888448782&k=sx6RPrQ As...

Hello everyone, First time poster, easy on me please!:) Reading the boilover part of the Palmer book. Am I supposed to watch boilovers at all grain brewing? Sorry about the lamish question, but the book writes about this at the extract brewing, and it isn't evident... Thanks!
