Good luck with your new brewery. I really like the logo.

    Juicing cherries for beer

Ah, so I add that to the secondary. I wonder if I can find something like that concentrate at Costco?

    Juicing cherries for beer

I've been inspired by beers like Three Philosophers and Petrus Aged Red to try a cherry beer. In order to avoid all the sediment from a cherry puree, could I just run all the cherries through a juicer and add only the juice to the wort? I wonder if this would mean increasing the lb of cherries...

Does this extract recipe look OK?

Does this extract recipe look OK?

I started the trial for BeerSmith and have been playing around with recreating one of the kits I've brewed as best I can remember. (I should have written down everything that came in the box) Can someone read through this and tell me if anything looks like it doesn't belong? Is the IBU too...

First few poors from the keg are full of sediment?

lol woops...and I typo'd the title, too. Ok I will try cold crashing before I keg. I probably do get too much sediment trying to get every last drop out of the carboy. I will be more careful with that part, as well.

First few poors from the keg are full of sediment?

I've kegged a couple of really good beers so far, but each time the first 4-5 poors are really cloudy. Their is also a strong "sedimenty" taste to it. How can prevent this so the first poors are as clear as the rest? Thanks

    Sanke coupler question...

Thanks! The coupler was new when I got it, so I think I will just do it this way. I thought there was probably some type of check valve, but I didn't want to find out the hard way that there wasn't. lol

    Sanke coupler question...

I just want to keg it and fill it with enough CO2 to protect it from oxidation. I don't think I can release the gas without hooking it up to a coupler anyway. I suppose I could carbonate it with sugar. That wouldn't purge out the other gases, but at least it would have a layer of CO2 between...

    Sanke coupler question...

I definitely plan to clean/sanitize everything thoroughly when I switch the kegs out, but I didn't want to go through all the work just to purge a keg of any other than CO2. Would putting a pack of priming sugar in the keg and releasing the gas every couple of days be a better way to do this...

    Sanke coupler question...

I want to keg a batch this weekend and allow it to age so I can get started on another brew. My kegerator only has 1 tap at the moment and I haven't gotten a distributor or another coupler yet, either. Can I just disconnect the coupler from the beer I currently have on tap, then reconnect it...

Saison kit yeast and aging questions

AHS has a relatively inexpensive Belgian Saison kit that I would like to have while my tripel ages out for a while longer. They suggest using WLP560 with this kit, but my LHS only has WLP565, 566 and 568. Can I use the 568 or either of the other 2 instead and get good results? I would also...

Does this mean I will be stuck with some of that off taste or will it eventually settle out?

    Oktoberfest questions

The hydrometer samples definitely had that buttery off taste and mouth feel. So maybe that is it. I was planning to do the diacetyl rest for a few days to try to get rid of that before I transferred into the secondary, but I haven't yet. I'll go ahead and start it tonight. I am really glad...

    Oktoberfest questions

I have a Brewer's Best Oktoberfest kit that has been stuck on 1.019 for about a week. Is it safe to go ahead and put it in the secondary to lager for a few weeks even though the instructions say the FG should be 1.013-1.015? Also, is it possible to just lager it in a keg inside the...

    Oktoberfest slow fermentation

Last night I bumped it down a few degrees and wrote down the yeast to pick up from the HB store today. When I woke up this morning the airlock was bubbling away. So, at this point, I think you guys were right about 1 sachet not being enough yeast. It looks like it just took a while for the...

    Oktoberfest slow fermentation

Well, the hydrometer shows that it hasn't done anything. It's still at the OG. I think I may just go ahead and ferment it as an ale. Should I just wait it out and let the yeasties reproduce or would it be better to buy another packet and add it in? On a side note...I tasted the hydro...

    Oktoberfest slow fermentation

I think it is an Ale yeast, but all I remember about the packaging was that it said Brewferm on it. If you look at these instructions:http://www.brewersbestkits.com/pdf/1028%20German%20Octoberfest.pdf, on the second page, middle right...there is a box with instruction on how to brew it as an...
