how do you decide what to brew?

Ill rebrew something that I did and came out great as well as browse northern brewer or morebeer. You can dl pdf's of recipe sheets and buy your grains mash um and drink um. I will also go on beeradvocate and browse through their top 250 beers, pick something out and look up a clone recipe. Or...

    Way Too Sweet

What was your OG and FG? If your beer didnt come down enough it will be sweet. It should taste better if it has some age on it. Less then a week is about 2+ weeks to early to be enjoying your beer.

Northern Brewer 5 gallon kettle deal

Heh, I just bought a grain mill from them and spent like $130, didnt see this. Ah well, dont have any room to fit another kettle anyway but would have been nice to get.

    yeast starter!

Doin good :drunk: I like big beers too, got a few nice once coming out real soon, and a big beer weekend planned. Bottling 2 batches and brewing 2 more! Starters are great! When you see all that extra yeast in there it makes it well worth the time.

Glass top stove and a 5 gallon brew pot

I brew full boils on my glass cooktop. Takes over a half hr to get 6.5gal boiling, but once it starts im fine. It totally depends on your stoves output and how old and efficient it is. I did some trial boils on mine. I opted for a 8gal alum kettle. Alum is cheaper then ss to buy but bc its...

    High gravity dry yeast question

Im still thinking about this beer. I dont have that much experience with dry yeast but I figured it out and you will need about 600bil cells for initial fermentation then about another 600bill cells for a second addition of yeast about 3-4 days after you pitch your first yeast. So plan on a...

    High gravity dry yeast question

Question? 1, Are you bottling or kegging? 2, Extract/PM or all grain? Good luck with your recipe, I looked into it a lot and read bottle carbing doesnt work with this beer. Its a lot of work, your talking about 2 yeast additions at different times, 2 hr boil, hop additions every 3 and a half...

    Keggles

Make sure there are holes in the bottom lip. Check out the sticky if you havent already read it. Kegs without holes are dangerous for boiling. Saftey should be first!

    Keggles

This is just my opinion, but if a big liquor store can sell you empty kegs, it is not the customers fault if its right or wrong. Maybe they should be holding the liquor store accountable. No offence to anyone but I dont care if Budweiser loses $65 on a keg, the company is rich, they dont care...

Post your highest SG/ABV that you BOTTLED!

Hey Revvy, meant no disrespect for the keggers. I envy you guys. I started this bc I wanted to see how high some ppl go and can still bottle carb. I wanted to make a DFH120 but heard you cant bottle carb it bc of the high abv. Just curious since im a big fan of big beers. :D

    Mash tun size?

You should be able to get 24lbs of grain in a 10gal cooler and 37lbs in a 15.5gal cooler. Ive done a 18lb grain bill in my 10gal mash tun cooler with room to spare. But as mentioned get bigger If you can, its not gonna hurt, only help.

    Homebrewing for Beginners Guide

Pretty good but it does seem to look like your advertising a bit. Lol To be honest I gave it a quick once over and stopped after the 4 ingredients needed to make beer. Should be malt, water, yeast and hops. C02 and alcohol has nothing to do with ingredients to make beer. Your text said it bit...
