    Banana smell from fermenter…

I kegged the blonde a few days ago, final gravity was 1.010, forced carbonation for 2 days. Adjusted the co2 down and have drawn off 3 half full pints . I’m impressed with the flavor it has , I can’t really explain how it fermented over 10 days. But it tastes great, my wife, who is not a beer...

First brew with RO water and adding brewing salts

Wow , all good information here.I’m starting to understand the whole chemistry involved. I brewed an Irish Red this morning and my strike and sparge water was the same brewing salt concentration, I was very conservative on my brewing salts additions, didn’t want to get crazy on any particular...

First brew with RO water and adding brewing salts

My main concern was to adjust my water to an acceptable mash ph . Previously , I used city water, which I made good and great tasting beers. 3 years ago I moved to the country with a well and a softener, then had to buy spring water. I never worried about ph on city water because the beers...

First brew with RO water and adding brewing salts

I have my Buckeye Hydro RO system up and running. I have my recipe in Brewfather and calculated out my salt additions. 1) When and where do I add the salts? All in to mash ? 2) Add into strike and sparge water? 3) All into strike water? 4) I don’t have any way to measure Ph , so I’m just...

Can/should you adjust the gravity after fermentation?

I always will fill a pint glass half full of one beer , then fill it up with another. Usually like pale ale and a brown ale , my own version of a black and tan . This way you experiment with the percentage of both beers and don’t ruin a whole keg. I have a large kegerator and 8 cornies on tap at...

    New to brewing RO water

I just put in an order with Buckeye Hydro for a premium RO system,100 GPD . Now I need to learn water chemistry . The past I have used tap water, then moved to the country with a well and softener, not good to brew with. I’m looking for a brewing program that is easy to use for RO Water...

    Banana smell from fermenter…

I’m getting a bubble about once a minute. I would have to think the yeast is the problem. I don’t want to open up my fermenter for fear of introducing an infection. I ll leave it go for a week and see what happens. It’s out of my hands for now.

    Banana smell from fermenter…

Just checked, 12 hrs after the second pitch , still no yeast activity. I have a Delta Brewing 14 gallon fermenter, it doesn’t leak . I have my Inkbird controller temp probe in the thermowell and over the last 8 hrs , the temperature inside has been slowly rising , so there is something going on...

    Banana smell from fermenter…

I pitched the yeast on Monday about 3pm , it’s now about 40 hrs later and no yeast activity. I’m suspecting the yeast . I bought 10 packs online during the summer. Maybe they got too warm in transit? The expiration date on the package was 11-23 , so it’s not old. I always keep my yeast in the...

    Banana smell from fermenter…

I brewed a Blonde ale yesterday, put in 2 packets of SO-5 for a 10 gallon batch, temperature was 76F. This morning , I’m not hearing any bubbling. Opened up my chest freezer/ fermentation chamber and I smell bananas. First time in 5 years brewing all grain that I have a bad batch. Never dealt...

    Water profile is it good?

I’m guessing the safest route to go is to dilute 50/50 with distilled water. With that in mind , I’m assuming that the values would be cut in half . Correct? If so , then is the water useable? Then if anything, what should be added ? I’m trying to brew a beer from the house well water from my...

    Water profile is it good?

I just received my water report from Ward labs and would like you opinions on whether it would be good for an Amber ale. Feel free to suggest any additions that I would need. l need to learn about water makeup and ph , any suggested reading that would help me to understand what is good and...

Where do you order your Homebrew supplies from ?

Just checked out Rite- Brew , great prices , dry yeast prices are super low . I’ve had it with Northern Brewer , last order was a bunch of thin plastic bags, many of which were hanging out of the box because it was poorly sealed. 1 wrap of cellophane tape over the ends of a 40 lb order. I blame...

Irish Red Ale Raging Red Irish Red Ale

I’m excited about this brew, to say the least. I didn’t read through the whole thread but is there a special water profile for this? I plan to brew this soon with my local water to see how it comes out. Then the second time I brew , I’ll use water that I brought back from a 450 ft limestone well...
