    My fermenter overfloweth. Quick help!

OK here are a few photos. It looks like it is simmering down some now. I was able to snap the lid close and install a new airlock. I lost a lot of krausen and hope that will not be a negative on the end result. I also hope no 'badies' made it in there. The metal stapler on the lid was there...

    My fermenter overfloweth. Quick help!

To create a blow off I would have to go to 5gal glass carboy. I have tubing but not a bung plug other than the one with the small hole for a airlock. I think I will pace a light weight on the lid to kinda close the gap between the lid and the bucket and replace the airlock with a clean one...

    My fermenter overfloweth. Quick help!

I brew a lager last night and pitched the yeast form my very first starter into 5 gal of well aerated wort. There is now some crazy action to the point that it pops the lid off my 6.5 gal primary fermenter (bucket). I did take some photos that I will upload next. Questions: What now...

What is floating on my starter

That is what I though. It is similar to what floats in the bottom of a Franziskaner Weissbier that you shake out the bottom of the bottle before pouring. Yeasties.

What is floating on my starter

I made my first starter but could not use it immediately due to a leaking spigot on my brew kettle. I had it out at room temperature for two days and then in my freezer at 35F to 42F. It is a lager yeast. I took it out of the freezer this morning to get it to room temperature. It has a...

Fermentap Weldless Spigot pains (with pics)

I had the same thought about the taper but I did get it to compress the gasket well before the taper came into play but still no seal with a 5 gal fill. I am done messing with this. The coupler has an OD of 1" so I will now drill a 1" hole and have a welder tig in the coupler. So much for...

Fermentap Weldless Spigot pains (with pics)

Not according to the instructions: http://morebeer.com/public/pdf/WL101.pdf It seals from the inside. There is only one washer and heat gasket supplied.

    Extract recipe calls for sparge

From my Clone Brews book most of the extract recipes calls for sparge. I am getting ready to clone the Castle Larger. It goes like this: Crush and steep grains in 1/2 gal 150F water for 20 min Strain the grain water into brew pot. - Question: does the word strain here mean transfer to...

    Fermentap Weldless Spigot

Old post I know but just a heads up. I got a Fermentap spigot and after 3 hours gave up on trying to get a seal and my brew day is shot. I did every thing perfect and still no seal. I started of hand tightening it all the way up to pipe wrench. Not impressed. I am taking it all to my LHBS...

    Lost my OG reading

Without OG you are screwed. Go by the recipe target OG or after bottling start with 15 beers, drink down till you fall over. The next day count how many is left and that is your % The FG readings at the end is just to make sure fermenting is done by getting the same reading over a couple of...

I am getting one now, thanks. Starsan is my friend.

    Aerating method

They create a vortex second to none and on low viscosity wort vs paint it will certainly dump loads of oxygen. I am brewing today and will shoot out to go get one now and report back later.

    5 Gallon Food Grade Buckets

But as I understand one needs 6.5 gal bucket to allow head space for a 5gal brew. I can see it as a bottling bucket but how do you ferment I them?

    Aerating method

Anyone out there in brewland ever use the paint stirrer sold at lowes / hd to aerate? I am talking about the one that you attach to a drill with a long metal shaft and the hamster cage at the bottom. They are made for 5gal paint buckets and I have used them (in paint) before and they kick ass...
