    Hiding from the inlaw

I am extremely blessed that I really enjoy the company of my inlaws. They don't drink beer but fil is into guns so we have something in common and mil is just happy I gave her two grandchildren. They also have forgiven an indiscretion or two over the years. :)

    fermenting hot

The bubbling will subside after awhile. Remember that the bubbling only indicates positive pressure underneath the airlock. Nothing more nothing less. Give it a week and take a hydro reading. Two days after that take another. If they are the same you're done fermenting.

alton brown - but not what you think.

I had the opportunity to meet him a in 2005. He was extremely nice. I found a love of cooking because of his show. Has anybody here brewed the recipe he suggests? Never got around to that one.

    stupid question

I am the guy that ends up having to look up acronyms on urban dictionary about every other thread I read. I cannot figure out what someone means when they enclose a word with colons. Eg :ban: once you stop laughing could someone please explain?

    homegrown hop recipe

Definitely not a strong aroma. It's very earthy It is a second year hop but a first year yield. I will try the MO plus two row and magnum hops just to see. Was figuring on doing a half batch just right save some for experimentation.

Do I need to transfer to a secondary?

I had something like this just happen to me. I racked from a secondary in the keg and it was already carbed. There was no blockage in the fermenter lock so I don't have a clue as to why this was. Kinda scary considering it was a glass carboy.

    homegrown hop recipe

Hey, So I harvested quite a bit of hops from my rhizome. They are dried and happily frozen at the moment. Here is my problem: I don't have the slightest clue what kind they are. (I think Chinook but am only about 60% sure). I would like to brew a batch to see their characteristics but I've...

    C02 inline pressure reduction

I need to drop 4-5 psi, not drop to 4-5 psi. Looking up secondary regulators as we speak. Actually, my LHBS has one that isn't too overpriced. Guess I'm taking a car ride with the daughter.

    C02 inline pressure reduction

yeah was hoping there might be a quick and dirty way until I get my second reg. The hose clamp might work but there could be pressure buildup behind it and possibly blow the hose.

    C02 inline pressure reduction

So here's my dilemma: I have a kegerator with 2 kegs in it. An IPA and a stout. The IPA has been on 15psi from the c02 tank for the last week but it's time for carbonate the stout. I only have one regulator going to a small manifold to split the air supply. The IPA is not done carbonating...

    Draft system balancing

Thanks for the info guys. Got a couple of weeks to mull things over. Good to get back into the swing of things. :)

    Draft system balancing

Probably what I'm going to do. MIght even redesign the gas supply system as I normally have an IPA and a Stout on tap at the same time. THanks for the info.

    Draft system balancing

I have an IPA that will go into the keg in about 2 weeks or so. Just reading on the 'net that a proper beer should be poured in 7-8 seconds, and I've never really time mine. I've read and re-read the force carbonating stickies and I understand them. In the end, it doesn't matter how long it...

    Draft system balancing

So I'm coming off a short hiatus from brewing. (about 7 months.) My draft system was pretty much just throw together with various tubes, clamps, fittings etc. I just got a pale ale into the primary and wanted to do this one right. I actually looked up some data and decided to test my rig...
